Hondo Duke Lane August 30th, 2003, 09:07 PM GordyD, Great to have you on the board. This is the place to find out anything about our favorite star, cowboy, soldier, legend, and American, John Wayne! :cowboy: That's a good question, and I off hand don't know. Being a holiday weekend, and so many out of town, you might check sometime next week, and possibly bring this topic to the head of the forum. I will check and try to get you an answer, but someone else might beat me to the answer. Cheers, Hondo B) chester7777 August 31st, 2003, 02:05 AM GordyD, I, too, would like to welcome you to the JW message board! What part of the country do you hail from? Or what country? ;) We do have an international group here, as you are bound to learn if you stay long enough. I must confess, I don't know the answer to your question either, but wanted to stop and say, "Howdy" to you anyway. But don't give up on getting an answer. Like Hondo said, an answer might be slow in coming because of the holiday weekend, but someone is bound to know. Again, WELCOME! Chester A Girl Named Jen August 31st, 2003, 06:04 PM Hi Chester --- I don't have an answer for Gordy either, but I just thought I'd tell ya I played that music from They Were Expendable for my dad. I didn't tell him what movie it was from, and since he was listening over the phone he had no way of knowing. This is what he tells me: "It sounds like something from a war movie from the '40s." Ha! How right he was. And how unhelpful. Anyway, I also extend my welcome to the newbie from someone who's still pretty gosh-danged new herself. This is a fun friendly place and I hope you like it here! Robbie August 31st, 2003, 06:22 PM I had a few friends recite these very words to me and my reply was that duke never said these words in any of his movies. I think they may be from an advetisement but I'm not sure if it was by the Duke I know Clint Eastwood did a milk advert but he didn't say these words in it. Jen welcome to the board, your one post away from being a newbie to being a member. Your posts have been great and I hope you will stay around and continue posting for a long time. :agent: dukefan1 September 1st, 2003, 02:19 AM Hello and Welcome, Gordy. Always great to have new blood in the group. I agree with Robbie, that is Duke ever uttered those words, it was in a ad and not in a movie. Keep coming by and hope you enjoy the group. No doubt you will. dukefan1 A Girl Named Jen September 2nd, 2003, 09:02 AM Gee thanks, Robbie, for the kind words. And you know what? You read my mind. I was wondering when I was going to lose that "newbie" handle... It looks like it's still there, though. Karl Slater September 3rd, 2003, 05:03 AM The only time I heard that line was on a game show broadcast by the BBC (England) called The Generation Game. They had on some impersonator doing his John Wayne bit and that was the line he used, everyone thought it was funny except me. Would it be based on the line from The Alamo "Step down off your high horse Mister, you dont get lard lessen you boil the Hog.??? regards Karl Robbie September 6th, 2003, 07:43 PM Karl Welcome to the board. One thing you should remember about "The Generation Game" is that it sometimes uses canned laughter, that may be why this inpersonator got a big responce. This line does seem very popualar in the UK Chris Moyles stated only recently on his show that hollywood actor John Wayne was famous for saying this line. So does anyone know where it originates from? :agent: |
