I need help, a good friend of mine is a great fan of the "duke" and when he was recently given a life-sized cut-out his wife made some comment about how he called her a "handsome woman" or a "fine lady" or some such wording obviously quoting the "duke"!
We want to give them an engraved framed picture of the occasion and I need the correct quote.

Hello and welcome to the board, Jimmmy. Can you make your question a little more clear for me? Did Duke actually meet and call your friend's wife "Handsome" or did he call a woman in a movie that? You came to the right place to get your answer. I am sure someone here will get it. Make sure you tell your friend about this board. We welcome all who admire John Wayne to the gang. Dukefan1

Hi jimmmy (how many m's are in your name?) :P and welcome to the board.
I know in Hondo he mentions that Mrs. Lowell is a "handsome" woman. That's the only instance of that exact word that I can think of offhand. But if you're talking about more general compliments directed toward a lady... well, there are an awful lot of those, so it could be kinda hard to pin the exact one down. ;)

Jimmmy,
Welcome to the John Wayne board, the place you can get answers on John Wayne
and life around him. We are glad to have you there.
Jen took my answer in the movie Hondo. I am not sure if there was any other movie, but I think that's the answer you looking for. Great to have and you and look forward to seeing more of you. Have a great day.
Cheers, Hondo B)

Welcome to the board Jimmy
Jen whom has only been here a short while but she has certainly proved herself and she's done it again correct quote and film, well done Jen. ;)
In Hondo Duke also says something along these lines. "Looks arn't everything, I know a lot of pretty women that I wouldnt trust with a busted two cent watch, but then some others come along that have something different inside them"
Or in Rooster Coburn he states "Out here in the territory we value a spirted woman almost as much as we do a spirited horse."
Although I personally dont recommend you use any of these quotes. :D
A nice one he uses in "The Quiet Man" is when he sees Maureen O'hara for the first time he exasperates "Is she real, she couldn't be.

Thanks lots, Robbie, but y'know what? I should be honest here. I just got lucky with that one. I sat down and watched Hondo for the first time just the other night. So that word "handsome" was real fresh in my mind.
But if you want to go on thinking it was a job well done on my part I certainly won't stop you. B)
