View Full Version : Harry Carey Jr.
capnralls September 9th, 2003, 05:11 AM I just had an email from Dobe about his latest project and he asked if I would pass it along to other John Wayne and western film fans.
He is to produce and star in a new film called COMANCHE STALLION. Please visit the website for this project at http://www.comanchestallion.com and be sure to sign Dobe's guest book so he can know what you think of this project.
This film is from the book of the same name written in 1958 and was originally going to be produced by John Ford in 1963. We need another good western.

A Girl Named Jen September 9th, 2003, 08:40 AM I certainly agree about needing more westerns! Thanks for the info.
dukefan1 September 9th, 2003, 09:18 AM Thanks, capnralls. Just took a look and signed the guest book. Man, it gives ya something to be fired up about. Can't wait to see it hit the theaters. Dukefan1

itdo September 9th, 2003, 09:54 AM Good news indeed!
Didn't know Harry Carey jr. had his own Production company - do you happen to know its name?
Would you know when the film's going to be shot, meaning: is it acutally green-lighted and going?
It's also good to see that another Wayne regular is with him: Dean Smith.
Hondo Duke Lane September 9th, 2003, 05:19 PM Paul,
Thanks for letting us see this great project unfold. I really liked it, and signed the guest book. Tell us how things will progress, and update this project. Looking forward to seeing the final product.
Cheers, Hondo B)
Kevin September 9th, 2003, 05:27 PM Thanks for the info capnralls. This is one picture I'll take the time to see at the movie house!!
dukefan1 September 10th, 2003, 06:23 AM Hey, I was checking my mail and guess what? I got a personal email from Dobe himself! He thanked me for signing his guestbook. He mentioned what I wrote so I know he read it. That means something that he took the time to reply. I am looking foward to watching his project take off. Dukefan1
smokey September 10th, 2003, 08:05 AM this man is a true gentleman he takes the time to read his guest book and write to all who have signed, so my hope is that it goes ahead and is a success for him
cheers smokey
chester7777 September 11th, 2003, 01:16 AM Paul,
Thanks so much for posting that link! We finally got over there and signed the guest book. Over 100 entries in 5 days (116 with ours) - I'd call that some support for the project, wouldn't you?

General Sterling Price September 14th, 2003, 11:34 PM I just recently received a personal e-mail from Harry Carey Jr. He sounds like he is doing well, and he said that he is working on Comanche Stallion, a western that John Ford had wanted to do in 1963, and now he is producing the film. The website is www.comanchestallion.com
Best wishes,
GSP
chester7777 March 25th, 2004, 01:04 AM SXViper,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have done our part to show support for Harry Carey Jr.'s latest venture, and signed our name.
We also posted your message over at the McCandles, Texas Forum on Yahoo, to rouse some more support from other John Wayne fans.

I have just added my thoughts.

SXViper March 25th, 2004, 12:07 PM Thanks guys, here is another link (http://www.readthewest.com/WesternsInTheWorks2003-ComancheStallion.html) that is asking the same thing. It also has some info about other western movie projects that are in the works.
Hondo Duke Lane March 29th, 2004, 01:07 AM Is there no theater release? I look it on imdb, and there is no video release date. Check it out at Commanche Stallion (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402932/).
They listed a theater date in March 4, 2005.
Cheers, Hondo B)
SXViper March 29th, 2004, 08:23 AM As far as I know, no theater release date yet. This "sign up" is strictly to show the investors what kind of interest there is.
SXViper November 4th, 2004, 10:14 PM Well I just stopped over at our old friend Harry Carey Jr's website for "Comanche Stallion" and he has now added a audio message in the Quicktime format. Stop on over and hear for yourself. Comanche Stallion (http://www.comanchestallion.com/pages/1/)
arthurarnell November 5th, 2004, 03:18 AM Hi
I thought that I had posted on Harry Carey's notice board but on checking I haven't and oversight I have now rectified.

stall 956 November 9th, 2005, 10:36 AM I saw at www.comanchestallion.com that Harry Carey Jr is making a new western. He has 8 promos on the site. Wish Ol Mose was alive www.hankworden.com and Ben Johnson. It would be great to see them with Mr. Carey. Who do you think should be in it?
ethanedwards November 9th, 2005, 12:20 PM Hi stall 956,
Thanks for the link, I for one
will look forward to checking it out

Colorado Bob November 9th, 2005, 06:28 PM Cool links, thanks Stall! I noticed while wandering around the Hank Worden site that there is a DVD available that looks pretty good. I am thinking about ordering one.

ethanedwards November 9th, 2005, 08:02 PM Hi,
Checked out those links, very short and pretty poor sound,
but very interesting.
Let's hope it all works out,

SXViper November 11th, 2005, 07:52 PM This has been in the works for quite awhile now. Not exactley sure what has become of it and if it will still be released. My guess is a straight to video/DVD release.
B5Erik November 12th, 2005, 02:21 PM "This will be my last western." Harry Carey Jr.
Bummer. I'd love to see him do more, but he isn't a young man, and he can't go on forever, I guess.
I checked IMDB and they show a US release as March, 2005 for Comanche Stallion - and obviously it hasn't been released on DVD yet, so it remains to be seen what will become of the movie. They have a lot of details about it, including the running time, so it looks like the movie was completed - they may just be having a hard time finding a distributor. I'd love to get it on DVD.
stall 956 December 3rd, 2005, 08:24 AM Seems Harry Carey Jr is doing a new series called "Horse Tales" ('http://www.soledadprod.com').
I look forward to seeing it!!
Hondo Duke Lane December 3rd, 2005, 10:18 AM stall 956,
I see the promo, but can you tell me when and what channel this is going to be on. I'd like to see it my self, but have no idea of anything.
I guess you don't much yourself. But maybe you can tell us more if you know.
Cheers B)

Howdy IHW,
A check with 7th Voyage Productions found that Dobe's film Comanche Stallion is due to be released on DVD "soon", although a date is not given. Perhaps a letter or email writing campaign might get them to speed up the process. Who knows. I know I sure would like to see this film. I have sent them another email, and also asked about Yak's Last Ride, Bronx Cowboy: A Tribute to Harry Carey Sr., Thank Ya Kindly: A Tribute to Hank Worden, Harry Carey's Tribute to John Wayne, and Horse Tales. As I get more information I'll post it. Their website is:
http://www.7thvoyageprod.com/pages/1/index.htm
Good luck and let's let them know how we feel about releasing these.

William T Brooks December 8th, 2005, 01:02 PM When I talked to Dobe's Wife a few months ago, I think she said that he was 85 Years Old and Ill, but working on another book.
I do not think that I will hold my Breath until the Film is Released.

stall 956 December 9th, 2005, 12:20 PM Yes, I would buy a DVD or go see Comanche Stallion & want to see Mr. Carey's new series, too.
stall 956 March 11th, 2006, 04:52 PM Harry Carey Jr's new Movie Comanche Stallion Western (http://www.comanchestallion.com) is going to be a Graphic Novel. Mr. Carey's seemed to be busy John Wayne (http://www.7thvoyageprod.com/pages/5/index.htm).

stall 956,
Went to the site, couldn't find the information you are referring to. Although, since I was
there, went ahead and bought TRIBUTE to JOHN WAYNE, hosted by Harry Carey jr and the TRIBUTE to Hank Worden. We'll report back after they arrive. ;)
Chester :newyear:
SXViper March 11th, 2006, 10:49 PM I just ordered the John Wayne Tribute. Did I read that right? Free shipping?? That is a awesome deal. I will report in as soon as mine comes as well.

Senta March 12th, 2006, 05:43 AM Hi,
Anyway thanks, stall for reminding about that. The information about the film is very interesting and it is a pity that all these tribute DVDs can be ordered only through Pay Pal.
Regards,
Senta
chester7777 March 12th, 2006, 07:48 AM Senta,
It seems that Paypal is really only one option. On the left side, it says something about if you don't have Paypal, you can use a credit card or bank account, where available. I also noticed that on the page where you are scrolling down seeing all the offerings, that if you go down to the bottom of the page, there is an address where you can send a check or money order.

Colorado Bob March 12th, 2006, 09:05 PM Howdy all,
If you're talking about the John Wayne Tribute and Hank Worden Tribute DVD's from 7th Voyage Productions, I bought both of them, and I simply sent them a postal money order. They came in about a week and a half, and I absolutely love them. They're great. Also, as far as Comanche Stallion goes, Dean Smith is the stunt coordinator on the project and according to the last email I got from 7th Voyage stated that pre production was complete, the soundtrack was scored, James Arness had completed the narration, and the rest of the cast was heading out on location to film scenes. Doesn't sound much like a graphic novel to me. Course I could be wrong. Who knows.

SXViper March 13th, 2006, 10:04 AM I just got confirmation of shipping. It seems like a great deal with free shipping.
stall 956 March 13th, 2006, 08:22 PM I'm sorry, I saw it on the IMDB (http://www.imdb.com) under Comanche Stallion. Speaking of Mr. (Dean) Smith. He is being honored next month at the John Wayne Cancer event in Bevelry Hills and he's having his celebrity rodeo event to benefit the JWCS this year. You can find out about it on the internet.

stall 956 March 17th, 2006, 09:59 AM I see that on the Comanche Stallion Hank Worden & 7th Voyage Productions sites they have placed a link to Dean Smith's Rodeo. Surely Harry Carey Jr knows Mr. Smith, but it seems the folks at 7th Voyage are very close to him, too.
I'm headed for Texas to be there. Should be a great event for a great cause.
erscolo March 17th, 2006, 12:25 PM Thanks for the thread....I went ahead and ordered the tribute to John Wayne as well....looking forward to it's arrival.

To everybody,
Keith was quite right when he pointed out that we had six separate threads on the same topic. It took some time, but I was able to merge them all together into one thread, so if it seems a little disjointed here and there, that would be why, but at least it's all under one umbrella, so to speak.
Chester :newyear:
P.S. I disabled all the links above, since they are now dead, as all threads are merged into one.
