WOW!!! :uhuh:

$5200?!?!? I hope their air conditioning is in good shape!

I called the John Wayne museum in Winterset, and mentioned to them that it was available, and in Iowa also, thinking it might not be too far to go get it.

I just went to check out the auction, and lo and behold, the reserve wasn't met at $5200, so no one got it after all.

In reality, if that story about Nudies and the hat is true, the hat alone could be worth the price of the whole figure.

And just think how many candles you could have made . . . :P .

Yeah, I noticed that the reserve was not met. How much did they want? 6,000? 8,000? It wasn't too bad looking, but the face looked more like George (Ol' man) Bush! Oh that reminds me, I found a website that sells John Wayne Action figures. I'll find the post again and link it here for all to see.

Baron,

I was thinking of e-mailing the seller to ask what the reserve might be (my experience has been that most of the time, they will tell you if you ask), and also suggest that they might donate it to the JW birthplace museum.

Hmmm, thinking about what you said Chester. If the value of the wax figure is say $6,000 and they donate it to the museum, get a receipt for the value, wouldn't that be tax deductable? They'd get a little money back then. Income tax donations is not my best handywork. :stunned:

You might tell them of that as an encouragement to donate it.

Here is what I was looking for. This might be more in your or others price range. The Effanbee John Wayne American Guardian of the West Doll, priced at $125. Here is the link, John Wayne Doll (http://www.rubylane.com/shops/treasures/item/eor438).

Here is another Effanbee John Wayne doll, not bad looking. John Wayne Effanbee Doll (http://www.strictlystores.com/storesites/mydollydearest/online_store/pages/0000000886.html), only $110!

Or you might like this one, the The John Wayne Portrait Doll (http://www.fascinationst.com/artwork/sku2970) from the Franklin Mint at $295. They have layaway of 4 monthly payments. I like this one as it looks like him the most.

Here is one, a bit pricey though, the The Duke - John Wayne Doll - By Virginia Galigher (http://www.tonner.org/garagesale/vgdolls.html) at $800. Not bad looking either.

Those are a few items you might get the Mrs. for Christmas. :D

Well, I got a response from the seller. Are you holding onto your hats? He ended up selling it to someone in Pennsylvania for his reserve price of . . . are you ready for this . . . $20,000!!!!! :o At least that's what he said in his e-mail. He sold it for a museum in his town.

Hm-m-m-m-m, how many candles do I have around here . . . ? :D I've got a vest, a hat, and some boots . . . .

I got a couple of shirts and pants you can use. $20,000 eh? Who does this guy thinks bids on eBay? J Paul Getty?? The US Treasury?? If I had $20,000 I'd by all the JW DVDs + other DVDs I want, a 65 inch Widescreen HDTV, an Easy Boy Recliner, loads of battries for my remote, and well, you can guess the rest.
