<span style='color:purple'> The votes are tabulated by the list compiled by the members of the John Wayne Message Board with their list of Top Twenty (20), and averaged out by a formula of total votes from the member and multiplied by rankings to come up with the final tally. The formula is counted by the number of rankings multiplied by the greatest number allowed in this survey. If a movie is ranked number one (#1), then this movie will get twenty (20) points. If a movie is ranked number two (#2), then the movie will get nineteen (19) points. And so on until a movie ranked number twenty (#20), will get one (1) point. The movies are added to give a total point in this system. The largest number is ranked first (1st), and so on until the twentieth (20th).

This is not a scientific list or promoted by any outside source for this ranking, but a list make up by the members to come up with an average list of their favorite John Wayne movies. A total of 55 movies are listed in this survey with at least one (1) point. The High and The Mighty* and Island in the Sky* were not included because of the limited availability to the general audience.

* These movies were not voted by any of the board members

Here is the list of the Top 20 voted by you on the message board. Thanks for your input.

The biggest surprise to me according to the list is seeing El Dorado in the top 20 and seeing it do better than The Sons of Katie Elder & The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

Not seeing Three Godfathers make the top 20 was also surprising to me. :o

Overall, the list is what I expected except for what I listed above. Had fun doing this poll. :P

Many thanks for doing that list for us, Hondo. What surprised me was that there were only 2 War movies in the top 20. I guess we all liked Duke as a cowboy best. I know I do. Dukefan1

This is a break down of the Top 20 films as to what type of movies they were and when they came out.

John Wayne in the Gerne
Westerns - 15
20th Century Military - 2
Comedy - 4

John Wayne in the Decades
1930's - 1
1940's - 5
1950's - 4
1960's - 8
1970's - 2

We seem to really like the 1960's John Wayne movies. That is consistant with the poll JWfan did a little while back with the decades vote. This just show what we really like in a John Wayne movie. I'm a little surprise that the 40's did better than the 50's.

Mike

I enjoyed reading that list I was very surprised to see True Grit come in so high and astonsihed to see 'The Alamo' in the dizzy heights of eigth position.

I am disappointed with Mcq and Brannigans position and I would urge everyone to give these movies another chance.
