Hi i've been wondering about this for sometime now. There was a rumour that there was going to be a dramtised version of the life of the Duke and they wanted Pat Wayne to play the part. Did this ever get to the screen if so who did get to play the Duke.
Thanks again.

Chance,

There has been no bio movie on Duke at this time. And as far as I know, I haven't heard of any such project.

:unsure: If there is, then the buzz has been very secret. Love to see something, but the books are very good. You might check out;

1. John Wayne: America - Randy Robertsa & James S. Olson
2. Duke, We're Glad We Knew You - Herb Fagen
3. John Wyane's America - Garry WIllis

I've read those books, and they were great. :D

Hi Hondo,
I'm going back a good few years now there was an article in the newspapers over here. It said there was going to be 2 Dramatised bio's
on the Duke one by an independant company and one by Michael Wayne.
Michael was trying to get the independant one stopped he was afraid of how the may portray his dad. That's about all i can remember.
So thanks for the info on the books I'll try and get my hands on them. :)

I've read just about every book and Bio written about John Wayne and I must say that to get the full story of his life, John Wayne: American by Randy Roberts and James Olson was by far the best. I thought that Gary Wills book (John Wayne's America) was the worst. It was dull and too political for my taste. Another good book is the one written by Pilar, his third wife titled John Wayne: My life with The Duke. It has some great insites into the private side of Duke. The one written by his daughter (John Wayne: My Father) was more about her then him and was just an ok read. Pat Stacy, his personal secretary and rumored last love of his life wrote one titled Duke: A Love Story. It was pretty good. As Hondo stated, Duke: We're Glad We Knew You is also a very good read. Just thought I would give you a lead on a few of the better ones. I hope this helps.

Chance,

I have "The Official John Wayne Reference Book" by Charles John Kieskalt. This book has a lot of publicity shots with some what it looks like pictures taken from a camera in a viewing room. Not the greatest quality pictures, but most are from his movies during his "A" movies. There are no movies before "Stagecoach" (1939) in this book. This is more like a trival book, but it does have shots. They are Black and White photos.

I also have "The John Wayne Scrapbook" by Lee Pfeiffer which has more shots of the Duke, also black and white, and shows more of the porduction shots, Playbill, and magizine covers. They do tell about the movies. I am sure there is better sources, but these are pretty good.

And the Garry Wills book is a little dull and political, but it gave a little different perspective. I'd read other books before this one.

Chance, if you are looking for a great book to get pictures for your drawings and such, might I suggest "John Wayne: There Rode A Legend" by Jane Pattie. It is chock full of great shots of him. Another good book with pics is "John Wayne: In The Camera's Eye" by Sam Shaw. The pics are all black and white, but alot of them are from his personal life at home. A third book with some good color pics is "The Life And Times Of John Wayne" by Lorelei Publishing Company. If you are looking for a close to complete list of John Wayne books, go to http://www.dukelestweforget.com and click on "Books I have read and recommend" on the menue bar. There is a picture of each book and who wrote or published it. I hope this helps. :)

I thought that the book "John Wayne: American" was a good read. I'm now starting on the Pilar book "John Wayne: My life with The Duke".

For pictures only "The Duke: a Life in Pictures" is great. It has mostly pictures from movies and a few real life. I can't remember the author or editor off the top of my head because I'm at a computer lab on campus, but there is nothing but pictures save a foreword and a conclusion so it might be a big help to you.
