View Full Version : Duke In Tv Commercials
A Girl Named Jen September 30th, 2003, 11:56 AM I remember a commercial from a few years back for beer. I want to say it was Coors but I'm not certain. Anyway, they took a clip from one of Duke's war flicks and pasted his moving & talking image into the thing - as I recall he was giving a pep talk to his men. Does anyone remember this? Sorry my memory on the details is so spotty.
Can you think of other commercials that used his image or likeness or even a clip from one of his films?
Kevin September 30th, 2003, 03:23 PM Hi Jen,
You can check out my JW site's multimedia page for the Coors commercial video.

Kevin
Ps. I *think* our very own Ermal of the Dukes Hollywood Cowboys doubled in the commercial (He donated the use of his body :D )
A Girl Named Jen September 30th, 2003, 04:33 PM So you are the person behind this discussion board? If so, thanks! :)
But this isn't the one I remember. The one I remember definitely featured some military men. In fact, I hadn't seen this one set in the west before - cool!
So anyone know if there are other commercials?
dukefan1 September 30th, 2003, 07:38 PM I think I know the commercial you are refering to, Jen. It was a Coors beer ad and it had a Drill Sargent yelling at his men about a six pack of Coors he found in the barracks. He wanted to know who's it was. Then Duke strides up and says "That's my beer, Sargent!" The Sargent is shocked and says "It's your beer, Sir?" To which Duke replies "That's right, and I checked on um'." In the end, he says, "Now, where's my pretzels?". The Drill Sargent yells to the recruits, "Don't just stand there, find the General's pretzels!" I loved the way they put his movie clip into the commercial. It looked so real. I also remember a comercial Duke did when he was alive for Datril. He made them in Colorado and I read that in the ad, he wanted to mention the Aspen trees in the scene, but the Daril people bulked, thinking it would make people think "asparin". They think of everything, don't they. If you want to see some magazine ads of the many things that Duke did hawk while with us, check out this page I have on my site. Hondo Duke Lane September 30th, 2003, 10:29 PM There was another Coors comercial where Duke is in a saloon with a beer drinker in the old west. This happen a long time ago, and it was I think the first with this computer generated of Duke from a scene from The Comancheros, and when Duke points out a family, it was the Cartwrights from Bonanza, with Adam, Hoss, Little Joe, and Ben. I can't remember the whole commercial, but do remember how much I enjoyed it.
Cool comermercial, Kevin. Haven't seen that one before.
Cheers, Hondo B)
baron von Rassilon September 30th, 2003, 10:44 PM I have the Military Coors commercial as an MPeg. The first is with R. Lee Ermy as the drill instructor (he was the drill instructer in Full Metal Jacket). Wayne was put in from another film. Ermil did just a little of the part.
Another one I've seen is from Trouble Along the Way. Wayne is the new football coach in this Coors commercial. I am trying to find this one for my collection.
Hondo, I remember the one you are talking about. Haven't seen it in years.
Also, I have seen a commercial that Wayne had done (live) in Austrailia for some product. Don't remember what it was.
itdo October 3rd, 2003, 02:10 AM and the longest beer "commercial" of them all: the one hour Budweiser program he hosted! That show was surprisingly good - for a commercial, I mean, and it had a host of guest-stars, wow! Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Lucy, Bob Hope, Ann-Margret, Johnny Cash (so they actually worked together), Lorne Greene, Roscoe Lee Brown, etc etc. Wayne was even in a little gag with Michael "Little Joe" Landon and "Hoss" Dan Blocker. The only awkward moment comes when Wayne has a glass of Budweiser in an old western saloon and toasts: Here's a bud for ya...
cppcpa October 6th, 2003, 08:27 AM Do you have a video copy of the Budweiser show? I'd love to see it, or any of the other TV shows from the 70's.
Duke also did commercials for Great Western Savings Bank. They shot them in Monument Valley and his kids were in one.
itdo October 6th, 2003, 01:04 PM The Budweiser show "Swing Out Sweet Land" I got off Ebay, I think it's still offered there. It's a copy off the TV, nothing Budweiser put out on video.
The American Film Institute tribute to John Ford (Wayne also made speeches in the James Cagney and the Henry Fonda tributes) you can get from Castle Vision Video.
I remember our friend Baron put down a list of all available TV-appearences in an earlier post, can't recall the title of the post though.
