Great pictures. I haven't heard about the GE's All-Star Anniversary. Is this out on video? Have anyone see this? It seems that it was out in September 29, 1978. I guess I was at the football game that night (it was a Friday of my senior year in high school).

Howdy All, the answer is yes, the G.E. All-Star Anniversary show from September 1978 does exist on video. But not in stores. I do have a copy, but it is a very poor copy. It was made from a home made VHS tape, that I transferred to DVD. I have not been able to find a good copy anywhere, and I don't believe it was ever "officially" released on video.

If I am not mistaken, that is Brendan Wayne, his grandson. Brendan Wayne is also an actor, and has a role in Cowboys and Aliens.

Not really sure what movie this is, but I think it is pretty clear that this is a very early photo of John Wayne, and I think maybe even earlier than The Big Trail (1930). That kind of narrows it down somewhat, since it is clearly a western picture. Is this from The Great K&A Train Robbery (1926)? Or maybe from Lone Star Ranger (1930)? I don't know for sure. It could even be from a previously unknown John Wayne film. But it has sure piqued my interest. I would also like to know what those two tall spindle like formations are in the background (right about the center of the photo). The location could be the Alabama Hills outside of Kernville, but it cold also be somewhere else. If those formations could be identified, it may help identify the location, and that could help identify the film.

I am positive that it is pre-Stagecoach, and I am positive it is not from one of the Three Mesquiteers films. I couldn't find anything, in any of the books I have that contain pictures of the early westerns, where Duke was not wearing a neckerchief and had light colored pants tucked in his boots. I didn't get to Sagebrush trail last weekend but will this week.
His clothes in The Dawn Rider were close but I could't find this scene. I am going to watch Paradise canyon and Sagebrush trail this weekend. I must admit that this is fun to watch these older films once in a while and see how Duke perfected his craft.

But actually I have already noticed these photos in a biography of Duke.

I guess the reason I thought they came from a book was the captions underneath the photos, but also that the captions appear to have been written by John Wayne himself, at least in the way in which he refers to himself in the first person. Do you know if John Wayne wrote these captions himself, or where they written by a press agent or something?
