This is rather off-topic but I bought the PC-Game „The Great Escape“ and lovers of the film – and they are many – should adore it. You get to play the parts of James Coburn, James Garner, you get to ride the bike as Steve McQueen over that fence. I’m new to this kind of stuff. Amazon just sent me the message „As someone who purchased Steve McQueen items before (true) and someone who bought World War II books before (true)...“ you know where this leads to. They sell you something you didn't know before you might be interested in!
I must confess they were right: this really DID interest me. Walking through that POW compound and using the tunnel to escape in complete 3-D was astonishing (of course, you get to kill some Nazis on the way, too), and Elmer Bernstein’s music played all the way.

Thinking about that „experience“ (it took me the better part of 2 weeks to play it through) I just wonder: when will there be a John Wayne game to play, defending the Alamo, an ego-shooter where you get to blast John Fain and his gang or something? Yes, there is a morbid thing to it, I know (having seen die Steve McQueen numerous times, his bloody body being ripped by German bullets before he/me finally made it through), but then again this is tempting.

What d’yall think?

I think you have a great idea there, Itdo. That would be an awesome game to play. My son has The Great Escape on his Playstation 2 and I gave it a small try. It seems like a fun game to play. I had trouble getting out of the Bomber alive, though. I have to get it out again and try some more. A John Wayne game would be the greatest. I would definately try that one. It is something else how real they can make the games now. I played the Medal Of Honor game and it blew me away. Storming up Omaha Beach was so real, I don't know how the brave men who really stormed that beach kept up the courage to keep going into that wall of bullits. Let's hope that someday someone does incorperate a Duke movie into a game. I bet it would sell like hotcakes. Dukefan1

I'll go for that game if I get to kiss Maureen O'Hara. That would be a definate best seller. Think about it this is from the early days of Rio Grande, and The Quiet Man. :)

Forget about the shootouts, she's worth it. ;)

Cheers, Hondo B)

Well, if you're going to play a kissing game then so am I! I want my Duke game to be modeled after A Lady Takes a Chance. There can be rodeo stuff in it for action fans - bull riding and cutting and the like. Then if you make it through all those levels the bonus round would be to rope Duke Hudkins and kiss him to your heart's content.

Even though I never cared much for that stuff, now I must admit I'm addicted!
I got me the PC game "Call of Duty", and, hell, they created the Pegasus bridge in Normandy in the computer. You remember the Richard Todd-sequence in The Longest Day, shot at the original location of that famous bridge. I have been to Normandy and wandered around there, and it'll give you goose pimples to shoot it out on that very bridge, a real-life 3-D recreation complete to the last detail. Morbid - I know, but fascinating at the same time. The mission is to hold the bridge until Lovat releaves you.
(there is a sequence in which you are about the hold positions in Ste-Mere-Eglise, but there I can't recognize a moment from The Longest Day).

I used to have the game 'Great Escape' myself but unfortunately it wouldn't work on my PC is is any good Roland?

I played a cowboy game once on the PC and at the arcade which was really good it was called 'Mad Dog Mcree'.

There are several Duke movies that could be turned into PC games such as 'The Longest Day' it could be made to the same format as 'Medal of honour'. 'Big Jake' and the Comancheros would be good game for a first person shooter and 'Chisum' could be turned into a good strategy game. El Dorado could have you play the role of Cole Thornton the Gunslinger and you would have to complete different missions possibly ones that were not in the movie but of course the final one would have to involve a shootout with the Jason and Christopher George. 'Rio Bravo' has great potential guarding a jail from a large number of bad guys for a number of days there is a real possibility of a game here. Of course my favorite movie 'The Searchers' could be turned into a PC game to although it would have to be made more simplistic and set it as a simple search to rescue a little girl and shoot a few indians. Well they are my suggestions are any Duke games currently in the pipeline.
