View Full Version : Philip Stern Exhibit of John Wayne Photos
Paula October 9th, 2011, 02:08 PM Philip Stern is a photographer who took a great many candid photos of John Wayne and his family. His photos are on display in a new exhibit at his gallery in Los Angeles.
Here's a link to some of the photos:

Jim,
the link is showing 'forbidden' over here,
is it OK you end?

I can delete it, Keith, but why would it be showing "Forbidden" in the UK and not in the U.S.? There's nothing too nasty about the picture; it just shows our main man with extremely unusual attire.

It's OK Jim leave it be,
it sometimes happens, Kevin and myself discussed
the problem last month.

If I am correct and it is the one I am thinking of, I might be wrong!!
it is part of the Phliip Stern Exhibit of John Wayne Photos (http://www.dukewayne.com/showthread.php?t=5419)
posted here.
PS Jim,
got the link to work with a little addition,
hope you don't mind have re-instated it onto your post
Kevin October 13th, 2011, 06:42 PM Stumpy, I'm unable to view it on my end too.
It could be that the person who runs that site is blocking the direct linking of images from sites other than his own. Meaning that to view the photo you would have to view the image coming directly from his web site. You could try right clicking on the image saving it and then attach it to this thread.

Thanks Kevin,
I agree,
I have now re-instated the actual link onto Stumpy's post
and it works fine.

Paula October 13th, 2011, 07:25 PM That is one of the photos in the Philip Stern exhibit that I wrote about in the Philip Stern thread.
Stumpy October 13th, 2011, 08:03 PM Thanks for the help, guys. I just posted the "properties" feature (which showed a jpg, meaning a picture) between picture, which is the way I always post pictures. And when I previewed the post, it showed the picture just as I intended, so I didn't know anything was wrong.

That's right Paula,
that's why I posted a link back to your thread.
However can't find it yet, but this photo
has been posted a couple of years ago,
and strangely I think it was me!!
I will check to see if I can find the thread,
and copy anything over to here.
As the last posts are about that collection,
I have now moved them to this your dedicated thread.
Paula October 14th, 2011, 09:48 AM That actually is a photo I've seen here and there over the years too, Keith. I think it got published fairly frequently simply because it's just so un-John Wayne-like. That is, unlike the John Wayne of the movies. The more I read and learn about him, the more I see there were all sorts of facets and depths to him, and interests of his, that the movies never could reveal.

That's precisely the reason I posted it - the picture showed Duke in an almost transgender mode and we all realize that's not the man we know. I had to look twice to really believe that was John Wayne.
