John Wayne is 'alive & well' .. at least in spirit anyway, I read a news article recently on how major stars live on long after they have passed, a good example would be Elvis, his songs still sell worldwide, he has become a legend, the same could be said for John Wayne, but in a lot of different ways.

His movies are constantly being shown on television, his name comes up in varied polls, he still makes news headlines ( recent auction for example ), hollywood stars still drop his name, he has a massive global following from movie fans, still admired and adored by millions.

The point I am trying to reach ( if I possibly can ) is how & why John Wayne sticks in our minds decades after his passing and why he has such global appeal. It is difficult to pinpoint any ONE reason, therefore I am of the conclusion there are multiple reasons why John Wayne is STILL so successful !

I suppose every fan has slightly different reasons for loving, admiring, liking this great screen actor and why his memory still endures today.
I have often attempted to ask myself what makes me a big JW fan and again, I cannot pin down any one particular reason.

In my humble opinion and from my own personal viewpoint, I can watch Dukes films over & over again ( god knows how many times I have seen his westerns !! ) to me they are timeless, I never get bored with them, I admire the strong, tough but caring characters he portrays, and I suppose in some ways I wish I could be a little like him in that respect

He has a great screen presence, always looks in control and can be relied upon in times of crisis, these few things I greatly admire about John Wayne and probably why I am and always will be a big Duke fan

JW websites such as this one greatly contribute to ensuring the John Wayne legend lives on and the flame of his spirit never goes out

Thanks for reading

Kind Regards

Yomper

Just a thought ....

Duke has a dedicated museum over in the U.S. in Iowa

How about a museum built here in the U.K. for british JW fans ???

Indeed, he lives on.

On November 10 here in Los Angeles my sister and I went to the John Wayne Tribute sponsored by julesverne.org. Patrick, Ethan and Marissa Wayne attended, along with a huge group of extended family. Pilar Wayne and Kim Darby also attended. At 7pm there was a Q&A with Patrick, who spoke at length about his father's legacy, and the fact that 32 years after his death, he is still consistently at the top of the "most admired actors" list.

Patrick and Ethan signed autographs and posed for pictures, then at 8pm, on the big screen at the Cinerama Theater on Sunset, we all watched "True Grit". It was wonderful to see it up on the big screen again. When he jumped the fence in the final scene, the theater burst into applause.

What a night.

I'm sure you're aware of the effort to restore the Quiet Man cottage in Cong in Ireland. I think that if that happened, there is a possibility it would be in conjunction with some sort of museum.
