Hondo Duke Lane February 25th, 2003, 09:16 PM Chance, ;)
Got it up and really enjoyed them. I've never seen them before. Anyway, not familar in what movie the holster is in.
Hondo :D
chester7777 February 25th, 2003, 11:30 PM Chance,
Yeah, the pictures came up and looked really good. The holster one enlarged, but the painting did not. Boy, that holster looks like it's been around the Horn a few times. I think my tool pouch at work looks better than that! That holster must have had great sentimental value to the Duke. Think of the hundreds of holster makers that would have been happy to give him their best holster, probably for free.
Does anyone know the history on this holster and/or the pistol, and where they may be presently? I have heard there's a cowboy museum in the Midwest somewhere, that might have them.
Also, does anyone know why the Duke would have one rifle bullet in the rear center of his holster belt? In some of his movies, I've seen these longer bullets in different locations on his holster belt.

hey that's a great question? I have always wondered what the larger cartridge on his belt is. It's puzzling because back in the time period of the movies the cowboys almost always carried pistols and rifles that took the same size shells, most commonly 44-40's. So I have always been curious what those larger caliber shells are, they look like they could be a 45-70 or some variation of a 45 caliber. But I just can't tell.
Somebody that might know a little more about Cowboyography and guns enlighten me please.

Robbie April 17th, 2003, 06:24 AM cant get the links loaded up there must be a connection problem
The big bullet on dukes belt is a rifle shell it is to indicate to him when his ammunition is half done and it is also an extra shell to have in case of an emergency where he has a rifle but ran out of bullets
chester7777 July 4th, 2003, 01:27 AM I would like to resurrect this topic by suggesting that you guys should check this out. CHANCE is quite talented, and has really captured the Duke's likeness in his artwork. I was recently looking at Pilar Wayne's web site, and personally, I think CHANCE's portrait of JW is better than any of Pilar's portraits.
I found the most recent link that CHANCE posted was able to work.

obxman June 8th, 2007, 05:05 AM Hi,

DukePilgrim June 8th, 2007, 07:59 AM Welcome to the Forum obxman. Nice to have you with us.
Great painting of Duke. What is the painting's history? Did you buy it or was it given to you?
Best
Mike
Tbone June 8th, 2007, 08:36 AM Very nice obxman and welcome to the forum!
obxman June 8th, 2007, 01:00 PM Hello and thank you for your warm welcome.
Unfortunately I have no idea about any backrounds because of this painting. I didn't bought it, it is belonging to the family of my girl friend, and now me and my girl friend got this as a present. Her dad bought this picture, I guess 20 years ago, and now he gave this painting as a present to us, told us to sell it and he wants that we invest the money of it in our new home, we want to buy...
If there is anyone who can help me out, because I think thats a wonderful picture. And if there are no interests I can also find a nice place for this painting in our home. But anyhow, I really would like to know more about this painting... It has a unique frame, the little gold plate on the painting says "Pilar Wayne" and its signed and painted by her...
Has anyone an idea where I can get more information about that pic???
obxman June 8th, 2007, 02:18 PM Thanks so much DakotaSurfer
I didn't know that Pilar painted so many paintings of her early man. And obviously she painted the same portrait not only once.
DukePilgrim June 9th, 2007, 02:45 AM I didnt know Pilar had it that hard. I thought she was comfortable. Looks like there as so many Waynes that their will not be enough money to go round them all.

William T Brooks June 9th, 2007, 07:54 AM When Duke and Pilar seperated in 1973 there was a Separate Agreement that took most of Duke's Cash in the Bank. This is Why Pilar was Not in Duke's Will when He Passed On !
:yeaahh:
That is also Why when Duke passed on in 1979 He had Very Little Cash Money in the Bank, But Pilar Wayne was Very Well Taken Care Of !
Then in the early 1980s Louis Johnson, Duke's Partner in all of the Ranches in Arizona Sold Them All to a Man by the Name Of Karl Eller from Phoenix, For $45,000,000 and then Gave 1/2 of the Money to Duke's Children, and Duke's Children could Live High On The Hog Again !
In 1998 Pilar Married a Man by the Name of Jesse Upchurch from Texas that once Had the "Tandy Corporation" and Started "Radio Shack" years before, and they were Big Players in the Beverly Hills and Hollywood Scene just a Few Years Ago !!!
I do not think that PILAR WAYNE will be on WELL-FAIR- VERY-SOON.

obxman June 9th, 2007, 11:10 AM Yeah,
I wanted to transfer her some money too, but I see that Pilar is okay without our help.
Does anyone have an idea how many pictures Pilar painted of her husband??? When she painted almost the same paintings not only once she had have painted hundreds of paintings...
...unbelievable
SXViper June 9th, 2007, 05:20 PM She had a website at one time but it looks like it is no longer functioning. It was www.pilarwayne.com (http://www.pilarwayne.com) .
obxman June 13th, 2007, 04:33 AM Hey, I've just seen the ebay auction again, this paintings are just litographs, copies.

E-P Hoffman June 20th, 2007, 06:36 PM OBXMAN
I don't want to be a wet blanket, but what you have could be a copy. Mass produced oil paintings are not uncommom.
Your best bet is to have an expert examine it, if you want to confirm it's value.
I have a degree in Fine Arts and Secondary Education, so I am a bit knowledgable on the subject.
Personally I hope you do have the original.

chester7777 June 21st, 2007, 09:57 AM The last one went for $39.99, here is the link,
