What a great board this is to have a topic like this.

I would also like to wish everybody a merry christmas and good news for all British members BBC are showing a season of Duke movies for Christmas, although it just an obvious ploy to win rattings as Duke is so popular I dont care.

I don't know about you, Bill, but the older I get the more I value peace and quiet. But at Thanksgiving and Christmas we usually have a houseful of kids and grandkids, which means a big hullabaloo. My wife, bless 'er, thrives on all of that but it drives me nuts. I usually just go into my bedroom and shut the door. They all know me so it doesn't really bother 'em.

I'm also one of those people who get depressed around Christmas. According to what I've read, it's a fairly common malady.

chester7777
December 26th, 2004, 05:39 PM
Well, with six kids, one son-in-law, and 2 grandkids stuffed into a small-ish house for the holiday, and church today, this is our first opportunity to find our way to this festive thread!

Seems like I'm seeing a lot of Chester :newyear: and Mrs. C :angel1: smilies around here . . . :D

I guess we should be honored to have everyone honoring us like this . . . :D

Seriously, we wish all of you a belated

BAH HUMBUG</span>[/b] (that's all in love  , we can really sympathize with the sentiment - it's a really big deal that always costs us sleep :dead: ).

One of the highlights of the holiday was that we gave a framed print of the new John Wayne stamp to a close friend who is retired from the USPS, and when he opened it, someone asked my youngest grandson (almost 3 years old) who was in the picture, and he said, "Papa!" As you might imagine, that made Chester (aka Papa) proud and happy  .

The other highlight was getting a 30" high definition wide screen TV for the bedroom. You should see how great the John Wayne movies are on that - WOW!! We watched The Alamo, Donovan's Reef, and The Cowboys as fast as we could put them in.

But, like Stumpy, we're glad it's over  .

Chester :newyear: and the Mrs. :angel1: (aka Jim and Sue)

:cowboy: :newyear: Thank you Smokey and everyone. I had a blast this Christmas. For the first time since I was 6 or 7, I had a white Christmas. This is the first time since 1918, that the ciy where I live, had snow on Christmas day. This is also the first snow here since 1973, and we broke all records for the amount of snow we had going back to when records started to be kept here--1887. I know it might not sound like alot of snow but, we had about 5 inches of it, and for us, that is a miracle. Just about 50 miles up the road a bit, they had about 11-12 inches of snow.

Sadly today, there was only one place I saw some snow still lingering.

Take care--TRK.

PS, I have a list of sorts that I am working on that, I hope when posted, you all can enjoy it. It might take me a week or more before ven getting started on it here though.

Hondo Duke Lane
December 27th, 2004, 06:29 PM
Ringo,

Glad you had the White Christmas that we all dream of (hey that could be made into a song  ). Seemed to be a great time to have one.

Where I live, we've never had a white christmas going back to 1856. We've had snow on the day before and after, but never on. Of course we live in the south where snow is a treat even if we get flurries. You figure. By the way, Miami has had a white Christmas in the past, and our neighbor just south of us (Mobile, AL.) had some snow flurries this Christmas as well as New Orleans (more snow there). But we were left out again. :( The south had some good snow on the gulf coast.

Hope the holidays were good ones for everyone. Mine was good.

Take care.

Cheers B)

Ringo -

Yeah - you guys south of us got the snow - here in San Antonio, we were completely missed, only a little sleet about 7 p.m Christmas Eve. The news stations aired videos of the white stuff and a number of people told how they traveled twenty miles or more to play in the snow. <_<

Best wishes to all and a happy new year!

:cowboy: Hello Hondo/Smokey/Jay.

Hondo, yep, the snow you mentioned that Louisiana and Bama got was from the same storm we got ours from. I'm not used to snow but, it was interesting at how soft it felt, and not really as cold as I figured it would be. The stuff almost felt like a cold and slightly wet cotton to me.

Jay, sorry about you guys just up the road a bit not getting any snow. I think Beeville got about 12 or so inches and Victoria got around 14 inches. My older brother lives in Austin and he said they did not have any snow or even sleet. I am surprised at that because you guys up there have a better chance for snow. I think we got VERY lucky because the cold front had swung through Arizona, and headed directly at us in South Texas.

I managed to take a few pictures but, I don't know how they will turn out. While shooting a few pix, I had to keep wiping the snow off the lens.

HAPPY NEW YEARS, to all the fine folks on this site.

TRK.

Just a little over two hours ago, Christmas Day officially started (it's Christmas for smokey right now, who's either sound asleep or feverishly finishing wrapping presents while her "little bloke" sleeps away).

So . . . we want to wish everyone a very

Merry Christmas

and a very happy, healthy, prosperous

New Year!

What a great way to start off the new year, with our "new" message board!! It'll take a while for us to get used to it, but the hackers can all pound salt!:headbonk:

Have a great one!

Chester :newyear: and the Mrs. :angel1:

P.S. You all have permission to use "my" Christmas smiley :D

to one and all i hope you all had a wonderful christmas and a great new year. am sitting writting this on the 2nd day of the new year drinking a coldie  . sorry i havent been in for a while but i was working quite a lot over the christmas and new year week, did in excess of 40 hours. worked till late xmas eve but had all gifts wrapped befroe that thank goodness. little bloke got most of what he asked for and somethings that were unexpected. he had been saving for a nintendoDS, but now he wants to save for something else as he got it as his big gift from me. he staided up to see in the new -year we didnt have any childrens wine (non-alchol) so we gave him a little bit of real wine just a few sips to toast the new year.

am returning to college on the 29th of jan to complete my dip. in retail have done well so far passed cert 2 & 3 and the first four subjects for cert.4 (got 2 credits and 2 distinctions) not bad for an old duck.

like the new layout easier to use.

Hi all -
I received a nifty Christmas present this holiday season. I got a pocket knife with three of John Wayne's pictures from his westerns emblazoned on the sides. It came in a case with those same JW pictures inside the back. Sharp knife too! I'll have to be careful not to cut myself with it:headbonk:!

I kinda had Christmas a bit early this year in the way of recieving gifts.

My youngest Nephew just got married.

Another Nephew's Wife just had her 2nd baby girl.

My third Nephew announced that he is engaged to be married.

From a good friend in Washington and together with a good friend in British Columbia, im going to get a nice Digital Camera to use with the computer. If I ever get the internet at home and learn how to post pictures.........:-D An extra gift from my friend in B.C. is an all WWII 3-place Luftwaffe Ribbonbar to a pilot who served on the Eastern Front. ;-))

Next from another friend, I recieved several DvD movies which included: Blue Thunder, Dunkirk, a 1930s Duke Western (forgive me as I forgot the title's name) and a few other movies.

From Wayne Enterprises, I got a nice Tin with the Duke's image on it which contains two sets of playing cards, some candy and a letter signed by Ethan Wayne.

Now all I would need to make this a perfect Christmas, is for everyone here to have the best of Christmas's and for my two Cats to quit fighting each other.
