Hi all,

I just completed the addition of the new spell checker feature for the board. Now you can use this feature to check your spelling before you post messages. As far as I can tell it's pretty accurate. But, if anyone has any problems with it please post it here.

Thanks
Kevin

Hondo,

After you hit "Hit Reply" you know the window that you switch to, to type your post? Right under the place where you are typing, the button is there, "Spell Check."

Now I see it. You can't get it in the other skins and languages section in the blue. It's only in the other section. That's why I didn't see it. Well that makes sense.

Hi Kevin

I'm with smokey is it possible to access an English spell checker. I have also noticed one minor flaw with the current spell checker in that if the user spells a word incorrectly while the checker identifies this it does not give a list of relevant alternatives.

Hum... It gives me alternatives check the attached image.

Now this spell checker will "learn" new words or phrases. You just need to click on the "Learn". That adds it to the dictionary. Also, clicking on the "suggest" will give you possible alternatives (if available).

I'm not sure if the dictionary is English or "American" but I'll try to find out.

Hi Kevin you have an American dictionary spell checker.

It does not pick up words like messageboard and chatrooms etc. Heres what I mean by alternatives, when I misspelt success I left out an s, the spellchecker informed me I had spelt the word incorrectly but the alternatives it brough up were away out if you know what I mean i.e. none of them were the correct spelling of the word success.

Robbie,

The spell checker isn't perfect. I guess I should have tested it more extensively before introducing it to the board. The phpspell is a work in progress, it was just created not long ago, so it is in its infancy. Hopefully, the developer will do some updates to it soon.

You can also skip the word if you don't want to use the suggestion on the spell check. I am sure that it is an American Dictionary. When I put in the Clickable Smiles and use the spell check, it ask for a correction, and I rejected it. So you can use this as a tool. By the way, Hondo was rejected but I added it to the dictionary.

 The spell check feature is great! Without it I would be typing in my mail hitting spell check then pasting it here it is a great time saver. No one wants to look like a dummy! :headbonk:
