View Full Version : Brannigan
broncolane March 4th, 2004, 06:18 AM Does any one out there know if the crew who worked on Brannigan were given a special gift at the end of shooting, and if they was, what was it. I have come across an item and I need to varify it's authenticity. A quick response would be greatly appreciated.
I saw the Duke in London in the summer of 1974 whilst he was shooting Brannigan, so it makes this film special to me.
Thanks.

First of all, I would like to welcome you to the John Wayne Message Board, the BEST of its kind on the 'Net!
You have certainly come to the right place to get an answer to your John Wayne question. 99 times out of 100, somebody here will know something about the thing you asked.
As to your question, apparently leather belts and a special buckle were given out at the end of shooting, as I have one, which I got from a guy living in the UK, whose father had worked on the movie. My guess is that might be the item to which you are referring.
I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the one which I have, but I know there are others here on the board who will be able to give you more information as to how best to determine that (itdo, are you there?).
I hope you'll be staying around!

Hondo Duke Lane March 4th, 2004, 05:44 PM broncolane,
I want to mirror my friend, Chester to welcome you to the message board. I know that Duke also gave gifts of coffee mugs with the movie title on the cup with Duke's signature. I don't know for sure if he did so for Brannigan, but my guess would be he did so. I am speaking of course gifts to the cast and crew.
Cheers, Hondo B)
broncolane March 5th, 2004, 04:01 AM I would like to thank Chester and Hondo for their input. I was lucky enough to purchase the said Brannigan belt buckle and am "over the moon".
Thanks again.
Bronco Lane
dukefan1 March 5th, 2004, 06:21 AM Let me greet you also, Broncolane. Not a better group of Duke fans anywhere else on the net. As for that coffee mug Hondo speaks of, I have one myself from Brannigan. It has the logo from the movie on the front (Shield and gun) and is printed on the reverse with " Good Luck, John Wayne". What exactly is it that you have? Might help those on this board to answer your question a little better. Dukefan1
broncolane March 5th, 2004, 10:00 AM It is the belt buckle that I purchased yesterday, Chester7777 informs me he has one also.
Dbigtoe1 July 25th, 2005, 07:06 PM It's funny that I came across your question. I was doing some research on the buckle and from what my father had told me, not too many people had received them. My father actually had a part in the movie and when he passed on in early 2000 he left me the buckle for memories. I do not want to sell it, but am curious what you might have paid for it. Can anyone supply an answer?
chester7777 July 26th, 2005, 08:37 AM Dbigtoe1,
WELCOME to the John Wayne Message Board, the best of its kind on the 'Net! We hope you'll stick around awhile, get to know us, and give us a chance to get better acquainted with you as well.
I must confess, I got my belt so long ago, I don't really remember what I paid, but I think it was in the neighborhood of 100 USD.

Dbigtoe1 July 29th, 2005, 04:49 PM Thanks Chester7777,
I actually looked a little further into it and found out that each one was signed by JW and if I was told correctly? Only one hundred of them were signed. I happen to have #69. I was a big fan of his growing up and now I have two daughters of my own and look forward to sharing the DUKE with them.
I also, really enjoy the website. Technology is amazing. It's great to know that there are people out there who love what they do hobby or work, to create a never ending memorabilia of him.
I would have to think his family members really enjoy this stuff.
Thanks
Dbigtoe1
chester7777 July 31st, 2005, 01:30 AM Wow - signed! Mine is not signed :( , but I enjoy it anyway.

William T Brooks July 31st, 2005, 07:44 PM I have a 1" and 5/16" Well Worn Plain Brown Belt with a 2" by 2" old time Plain Brass Buckle. You can see that all 5 holes in the belt for the Buckle all have been well used! Next to the Buckle is a 2" by 1 and 1/4" Brass Oval Plate that has on the Top of the plate in large letters "JOHN WAYNE" and at the Bottom in smaller letters "BIANCHI LEATHER and WAYNE ENT." If you look at a picture from the film "The Cowboys" you will see one just like it , and I was told by Mike Wayne in the 1980s that it was in a few of Duke's films. :) If we can ever get a John Wayne Museum going here in Northern Arizona it will go there!!! :jump:

William T Brooks August 1st, 2005, 04:44 AM REASR,
In the early days he would give out Autograph Pictures to all of the Cast and Crew, and Autograph Cards to anyone that wanted one. Later Pat Stacy said that He would give out Thousands of dollars worth of Gifts to the Cast and Crew and anyone else that wanted them, He said that if it was not for Friends and Fans He could not have gotten were He was.
He gave away Cards, Pictures, Belt Buckles, Cups, Lighters and Guns to some of His Friends. And even a lot of Cash to people that would write to Him with a Sad Story. :(
Pat said that He was not very good with Money!!!
