To all,

In just a little over 5 weeks, May 26 will mark the 96th anniversary of John Wayne's birth. I imagine there might be some different celebrations going on around the country. If anyone knows of something, why not share it here? Hopefully, I'll have a new hat in 5 weeks . . . .

Perhaps as this forum grows, we could even plan events at which we could get together on a local basis.

What do you think?

Chester,

I don't know of anything going on right now in commemoration of Duke's 96th birthday, but if I do, I will stay in touch.

You have a great idea about something we ought to talk about doing in the near future. We ought to celebrate the centennial (100 years) of Duke's birth. Get together and do it like Duke would have loved it. Get his surviving family together, and have a day to celebrate the life and movies of Duke. What a way to show people around the world of an American legend. And guess what? His 100th birthday will be on a Saturday. This could be great!

Maybe a little premature but,"Happy Birthday Duke!"I would like to say thanks for the many hours of entertainment, the joy and excitment of watching your movies. Also thanks for the lessons of life, no matter how your health is, never ever give up, but keep fighting! B)

April 9th was Ward Bond's 100th birthday. I had my own little private celebration.

To all John Wayne fans,

I just received an e-mail from Ermal Williamson (president of Duke's Hollywood Cowboys, and a professional John Wayne look-alike/impersonator). He's been involved in several previous birthday celebrations for the Duke. He indicated that his organization would be celebrating the Duke's birthday in Tombstone, Arizona May 24-26.

Here's a link to his web site:

The little lady and myself are thinking of heading down in that direction for that weekend, and visiting Tucson also, Lord willing and the creeks don't rise :D .

Looks like this forum has grown, and some planning and gathering is in the works.

The Mrs. and I are going to get together with 2 other members of the board (not active, but members nonetheless  ) for the showing of The Quiet Man on the big screen in Antioch, CA, on March 18th.

Then it sounds like a bunch might be headed for Monument Valley in a little over a year, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of John Wayne's birth!

Thanks, Murray, for bringing this back to the top!

Hi. It would seem that there would be some celebrations in SoCal and in Iowa at his birthplace---when JW's 100th birthday hits next May. Good time for many of us to meet. How do we go about tracking news as it develops?

Thanks...am enjoying the new Wayne-Ford collection, $49.95 at Costco.

Howdy All,
I was speaking with a friend of mine in Oklahoma, and he tells me that there is supposed to be a big bash at the John Wayne Birthplace in Winterset, next year on Duke's 100th. I hear that Boyd Magers (author of Western Clippings and Best of the Badmen) is in charge of lining up the guests. So far they include Gregg Palmer (John Goodfellow in Big Jake, and many other John Wayne films), and also all the surviving Wayne children. It's supposed to be quite the event.

Now I'm stuck trying to decide between Monument Valley and Winterset. Who knows, with finances the way they are, maybe I'll have something here with a few fellow John Wayne fans that I know. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how things turn out.

Best to All,
Colorado Bob

Your right about decision making time Colorado. I have reservations to Monument Valley, but dang wouldn't it be nice to see and meet some of his children and fellow actors. If you hear anything more I would be obliged if you would keep me informed. Thank you.

Wow, thats like a 4 hour drive from my house to Winterset, Ia. I was there about 16 years ago. Its a nice area with the covered bridges in the area(Bridges of Madison County was filmed there). Not sure myself, I am still leaning towards Monument Valley as I have never been there before. But with all the kids and actors from his films it will still make it tough to "drive" by Winterset.

:jump: :jump: Hello All
I sent a pm to Colorado Bob asking re dates on the Winterset shindig. Perhaps both could be done, the other being monument Valley.
