The White O’Morn Foundation, U.S.A. strongly believes that White O’Morn should be and can be restored to its former charming state, and can benefit all who visit the site, as well as the local residents and economy. This is our primary vision.
The White O’Morn Foundation, U.S.A. also strongly believes that before any restoration can take place, the cottage and surrounding property must first be preserved and protected against any further deterioration and damage, and steps must be taken to ensure the cottage’s future protection and management after its restoration. It is our vision to work toward these goals, and do everything we can to ensure its success.
The White O’Morn Foundation, U.S.A. also strongly believes that to completely exclude and alienate the rightful and legal owner of White O’Morn, Mr. Gregory Ebbitt,as some wish to do, can only work to the detriment and continual delay of the restoration process. It is our goal to do everything we can to ensure that Mr. Ebbitt is neither excluded nor alienated at anytime during the restoration, preservation or protection process.
Mr. Ebbitt has expressed that he still strongly wants to see the cottage restored, and that he does not desire to sell the property to anyone (which is, of course, his right as the legal owner), and we at the White O’Morn Foundation, U.S.A. strongly support this decision.
The White O’Morn Foundation, U.S.A. also strongly supports Mr. Ebbitt’s rights as the legal owner of White O’Morn, as well as his desire to see the cottage restored and protected for future generations to enjoy.
It is our desire to do all that we can to ensure that these goals are met to the mutual satisfaction of all concerned, but with the primary recipient of our vision to always be the cottage that is loved by untold fans, White O’Morn.
Just thought I'd bump this up. I know many folks may have been away from their computers over the Christmas weekend, and may not have had the opportunity to see this. We have also opened up the Facebook page to receive posts and comments, so if you're of a mind, come on by and lend your support! The more voices that are heard, the better. We all hope that the historic cottage from the Quiet Man, White O'Morn, can be and will be saved!

Here's an interesting YouTube Video showing a tour of the inside of the replica Quiet Man cottage in Cong, Ireland,
Did you spot the sad deteriorating state of Ashford Castle?

Re: White O'Morn Foundation.U.S.A.
The Quiet Man Museum cottage also has a second floor, which the original did not have. There is a second replica Quiet Man cottage in Maam Cross as well. From what I understand, both are frequented by tourists. It is our hope at the White O'Morn Foundation, U.S.A., that the original White O'Morn, the one used in the film, can be restored to its former beauty. Of course, the original is in such a state of ruin right now, much of it will have to be rebuilt rather than restored, but part of the original is still there. Let's hope 2012 sees the restoration process starting!

I'm confused. Are you Ethan Edwards in the U.K.....Chester in the U.S?. Likewise is there some documentation to say that Greg Ebbitt (msp) is aboard this campaign. Not to worry, I'm just an old lady and we have so many cottage restoration sites now that I can't get them all straight.

I would add to Keith's post, that of the three organizations currently advocating for the restoration of White O'Morn, the White O'Morn Foundation, U.S.A. is the only group that is currently in contact with Mr. Ebbitt, the legal owner of White O'Morn. Mr. Ebbitt is still very determined to see the cottage restored, and we are just as determined to see his dream come true.

Re: White O'Morn Foundation.U.S.A.
I have been there numerous times since 1998..The cottage is a wreck..BUT everything else is there..the bridge..the little road up from the water to the cottage. An additional cottage was built in the late 50's behind the movie original..but has been abandoned for years...The little area wher Duke planted the roses is about 50 yards to the rear of the cottage. The small river in front is the fallimore river. The town of cog is very close and everything id still there..Cohans is NOW a real pub with the interior duplicated from the film. It was a family grocery store for years run by the Murphy family. Jack Murphy lives close. He is now about 80 and was in the film as well as Victor MacLaglens driver...He is very friendly and talks about the film..Many areas in Cong are still intact..The cross..the house wher old Dan Tobin ran out from ..The river fight scene area etc..Excellent tour people in Cong..and Ryans Bar across from Cohans is where Duke,Ward Bond and Ford and MacGlaglen drank at nite...Als see Ashford Castle...Tons on movie scenes there including Red Will Danahers house and the fight scene area...Good Luck..Take ur time and enjoy the whole..bring video!! Happy New Year to all......The Lawman:holiday_irish:...And May the Road Be Kind to Ya

Lawman, I am very envious of you! I would love to visit Cong, as well as many other places in Ireland. Originally, my family came from Leinster, although that was several hundred years ago! One day I do hope to make the trip though, and I hope that White O'Morn will be restored so that all who visit will be able to enjoy it!

Indeed, I intend to go in the region to visit outside the tourist season.
After the restoration of the cottage, the influx of tourists may be very important and may go against the memories we have of the film, large territory, almost desert of great beauty ...

After outside, let's see how is arranged inside the White O'Morn ...
Thanks for posting these great stills.
I suppose we have to ask the question,
were these shot in the studios?
and the answer is, in those days they most likely were!
However in the restoration these photo's
could prove to be as good a guideline to use as any
when it comes to fitting out the interior.

Re: White O'Morn Foundation.U.S.A.
Indeed, it is difficult to distinguish between reality and studio. Only Maureen O'Hara could confirm the facts. In his book, however, she confirms that the interior scenes were filmed in late July 1951, at Republic Pictures, Hollywood. Almost half of the movie was filmed in the studio.

Re: White O'Morn Foundation.U.S.A.
There are actually very few shots of the actual White O'Morn in the film, and those that do appear are all exterior shots. That being said, however, I think if White O'Morn is to be restored to how it appeared in the film, as Mr. Ebbitt wants, then these interior shots should be the blueprint for how the restored cottage should look.
By the way, Romy, thanks for posting these screen shots! They are great! Have you visited the White O'Morn Foundation, U.S.A. website and Facebook pages?

Re: White O'Morn Foundation.U.S.A.
Your info is correct...ALL the interior shots ref the cottage were done in Hollywood at Republic Studios. Th exterior involved when Duke walked up to the cottage in the beginning, and the scenes where the Rev Playfair and his wife arrived on the bike...and the "Fine Big Bed" delivery. Even the initial scene where Sean gives her the cart was filmed in hollywood..and then quickly switched to a small clip that showed them in the cart going over the small river in front of the cottage. All the furniture scenes etc are Hollywood..and it's pretty easy after u look severaltimes...where the shed and mountain scenes are different.Th rest...town scenes,Danahers house,walking..biking ..and fight scenes were all done in Cong/Ashford Castle area..The horse race was done near the coast..but the race award scenes etc were all Hollywood...It's all there when u go...except the cottage...Will forward some references..excellent books and info I have and you can obtain ..very worthwhile....Have a good weekend.....The Lawman

And here is our dedicated thread showing the locations mentioned above
Thank you both. It is clear that Ford would have had difficulty in placing his huge camera and his floodlights in the small living room of the cottage home ...
But I'm still applying for a plan (however brief) of White O'Morn!

At home, in the south of France, in Camargue, there were also huts for herdsmen, herding of bulls, horses, sheep. The rounding (apse) was directed to the prevailing wind (the Mistral)...
After several weeks of discussions with Mr. Gregory Ebbitt, the owner of White O'Morn, he has consented to allow us to work on his behalf to see White O'Morn restored! In addition, Mr. Ebbitt has expressed his desire to enter into discussions with the local council members, and has asked that we forward his email address to them. This is exciting news indeed! And it looks as if the restoration project is starting to move forward. There are still quite a few things to do, and no doubt some hurdles to overcome, but we are confident that the protection, restoration, and preservation of White O'Morn will become a reality!
