Duke was famous for twirling his winchester rifle via and extra large loop but what were the names of all the films he did it in I can only think of four they are as follows,

    1. Stagecoach
    2. The Magnificent Showman
    3. El Dorado
    4. True Grit

    are there any more?

In "Hondo", when Lowe is about to shoot his dog.
There is a publicity shot of Rio Bravo twirling the winchester, but no twirling in the film. For publicity purposes he also twirls the gun for the Comancheros publicity man, even though he uses a different rifle in that one.

I must admit I don't know in how many or in which movies the Duke twirls his rifle, but I sure remember Chuck Connors doing it in The Rifleman TV series. I know that for all the kids of my vintage, all we could think of was having a Winchester with a big round cocking lever. I remember having one made out of plastic, but it didn't last very long (what a surprise ).

While with the DHCs over Memorial Day weekend, I took some pictures of Ermal twirling/cocking his Winchester. Unfortunately, I was standing in front of him and didn't get the full effect like if I had been standing on the side.

Like Roland said it was in a promo.
I've seen it a couple times and am disappointed they didn't include it.
Look for it in one of the life and times type video.

Robbie, it's true in Hondo you hear the gun cock and THEN they cut back to JW who's just ready to let go - but holding his gun with one hand - and isn't the other occupied. I didn't check this out now - just felt every time I watched it in the past: Oh, there it was again - the gun TWIRL.

Now how about his HANDGUN. I always felt that was a left-over from his B-movies, he certainly did it a lot then. Can anyone list the films in which he does it in the pictures starting after his quickie-period?

He did it twice in The Searchers.

Twirling the handgun once after teaching Jimmy Stewart how to shoot in Liberty Valance.

Twirling it (and throwing it out of the window - why, we'll never know) before starting the big fight with Randolph Scott in The Spoilers.

Sorry Roland I misunderstood what you said about Hondo, I though you meant it was in the movie.

He twirled his handgun 3 times in the searchers, when he goes to kill Debbie, and handing it twice to Ward Bond.

He twirls it in the Sons of Katie Elder at the graveyard.

In the shootist when he hands it to Ron Howard and again I think in the boarding house. That all I can think of

Yep, read carefully: I did say that he did twirl his rifle in Hondo - it's not shown completely, yet it is suggested.
By the way, the winchester he used in Rio Bravo is on display at the Warner Studios which you can visit on a very intimate tour, nothing like Universal studios (what they don't show is the rubber double of his winchester which he used to clubber a bad guy in the same film ;) ).

I got it right 1st time it was just Reasr's unecessary comment that knocked me out.

Regarding the twirling of the handgun he does it in the The fighting Kentuckian, Brannigan and also El Dorado

    My comment knocked you out?
I said ....IT WAS IN A PROMO
UN necessary? I was only stating that I saw it, and know what he is talking about.

It appeared to me you were about to tell him as you have done in the past he doesn't know what he is talking about.

If anything unnecessary has been put on this board its your countless posts. that was COUNTLESS. You'll argue with yourself , given the chance.

    Here's my email readsit@toolcity.net
tell me more! Don't post it here, for that WOULD be another UNNECESSARY post of yours.
