    How Did You Get Here?

Something we were wondering about is how most of you found the message board. There is quite a good sized group of regulars here, and we know where many of you live and other things about you (you love the Duke!), but wondered how you got here in the first place?

As for us, we had been on another John Wayne board for awhile, and heard about this one, so checked it out last January, lurking for a short while, then getting involved more and more . . . .

So . . . do you remember how you found out about this Message Board?

We'd love to hear your stories.

    Chester and the Mrs.

    Hi Chester

I'd never been on an boards or knew any existed. I found this one going through IMDB and Google. Being a suspicious type of person and wary of privacy information etc becoming public domain. I approached this board very cautiously.

When I discovered that there was no catch, no hidden agenda and every one is very friendly I made my first posting and haven't regretted a minute of it since.

I've even manged to try the chat room on occasions something else I'd never done or dreamt of doing previously.

    Keep up the good work.

    Very Best Regards to all

    Arthur.

Though I'm a newbie, and therefore mindful that my memory of the reason for joining this happy band should be fresh, I cannot for the life of me remember the specific reason. Apparently, I was searching the 'net for references to Big John, just happened to stumble across this site, and decided to post. As I said in another thread, the old memory ain't what it used to be. Dammit.

I'm a participant in several online groups that discuss topics in which I'm interested (particularly politics) and since the Duke is one of my favorite subjects, I must have been looking for something that concerned him and just happened to land here.

well here goes "what bought me to this board".

i found this board by reading about kevins board in a mag called 'netguide' where it tells you about places of interest on the web and it dirrected me to dukewayne .com and that is where i found the connection to this wonderful place came to have a butchers lurked like a croc in water then snapped right in and asked some, when i look back on them, some real dickie questions and found some really interesting answers from those all ready here, was made to feel welcome and stayed. "saw your lights on, just stopped, don't eat much" :

....I too found this board through IMDB. Their board was a bit lame and stagnant. You guys don't let the grass grow under your feet and there is usually something new daily. Winter is starting to get long and this board has taken up some of the dreary hours. I have neighbors and family who like the DUKE but none of them have your enthusiasm. I like the fact that some one from overseas or just south of 49 can have the same opinion or attitude as myself even though we have cultural differences. I think if the DUKE were alive he would find this board a great tribute but also a humbling one. As long as we keep the board alive we will keep John Wayne alive, if only in our memories...SaddleTramp...

It took me a minute to remember how I came here, but I've got it now. I'd been watching Duke's films on and off for quite a few months and had just watched They Were Expendable. There was a song in there (when Duke & Donna Reed dance) that I really liked so I went out on the web to see if I could find the song's title. I couldn't, but in the course of looking I ran across this message board, so I came here to ask you guys. I honestly didn't think I'd be staying, but the welcome was so warm that I couldn't resist tying my horse to the post. Chester was the first one to welcome me - something I've noticed he does for all the newbies. :)

Still don't know the name of that song, though - or who wrote it. Oh well.

In which IMDB board did you most participate, ST? I used to be a regular on the IMDB Video board on but got so mad at one of the young arrogant punks on there that I quit. I also sometimes participated in the "Western" genre board but as you said, it got to the point where they talked about the same subjects over and over.

Hi Stumpy;... I guess I hung around The IMDB board for about 10 days. It just didn't seem to be going anywhere and when I logged on to this board(it was recommended by someone in IMDB) it just seemed alive and going somewhere. The people on the IMDB just seemed to wander around JW and no one really seemed to have to much to offer. This board on the other hand never seems to slow down and the info is tremendous. I have been able to add my bit of wisdom at times and it seems to be accepted.(no one has told me to quit typing). Finding out a bit of personal stuff on some of the members helps put things in perspective(age, gender, location) because I was taught to respect my elders for on their wisdom I can build my future. This is a great board with great people who have put a new perspective on my movie collecting and the trivia stuff is great. CHILLIBILL'S stuff is wonderful and having known the BIG GUY and worked with him is a pure treasure. Every day I have some little tid-bit of trivia that I can tell my wife and I constantly look forward to more. I know now that I am not alone in my sometimes fanatical collecting of John Wayne movies. There are people out there that await the mail man for their latest WAYNE classic. WE have a good thing here so keep it up. Maybe we'll see who's still here in another 25 years. If I'm still on the green side of the grass I'll probably still be typing my 2 cents worth...SaddleTramp...

I found this board by accident when trying to research something about JW. I have been such a fan of his for so long since I lived in Arizona where he used to visit and my best friend lived where his ranch was in Eagar. I am sad that I never met him. My father met him when he worked in the Copper Hills liquor store in the early 70's and he came in to get some booze for one of his visits to the Globe/Miami area where he came often to the Copper Hills Motel. I even bought a fellow fan who was one of my teachers at Miami High School a poster of him shooting two pistols at once - he kept it hung in the utility closet in his room from that day till he retired, and often had his year book picture taken next to it. I found the almost life size poster in Phoenix in a poster shop.

I am headed to Eagar on the 17th of March to visit my family. Can't wait love to go to the South West. Am also headed to San Antonio after that for a few days as my husband is attending a meeting there.

I had all most forgotten about the Duke and what he had meant to me in my younger years, all but to look at his films now and then. My son that is about the same age as most of you, 48 years old said Dad you need to go to this Web-Site on John Wayne, you have a lot of good storys to tell because you were with Him and Pat Stacy, and in some of his old films. So I did and I am having a good time at it! Then my son said that some guy with a funny name , Chester7777 wanted to talk to me about the Duke's Guns. My son's name is the same as mine but lives in Phoenix! So I called Chester. That is how I got here ! What the hell is IMDB? Chilibill

Re: How did you find us?

I thought I commented on this topic but I didn't so I must say that I looked for John Wayne websites and ran across a site of Kevin's that lead me to here. It was a pure accident so after I read some of the things on the board, and I must say that there was not much here at the time but the content was great and so was a lot of the information about Duke.

I signed up and started to post and intorduce myself here at the message board. After we (Chester and I) made our 100th post we were chatting and Kevin came in and chatted with us. After a great talk, Kevin asked us if we would be interested in becoming moderators. We accepted and the rest is history. Chester (and the Mrs.....) joined 10 days before I did. But this is where we met and have been friends every since.

And now after 3100 posts, I am still here and having a great time meeting all of you and positng about John Wayne.

    Cheers Hondo

Re: How did you find us?

I installed the Google sidebar and one of the stories it showed me linked to this board. When somebody posted about the Duke scratchoff in Texas, I joined to post. Now, if someone will tell me the best place to tell a little about myself (which I don't usually do), I will. I guess Wayne has that effect on me.

Cool Re: How did you find us?

Hello Kid Wheeler and welcome to the forum. Glad you found us.

As to how I found this site? I belonged to another JW board and enjoyed being there when they decided to shut down. They told those of us to check out Kevin's board and recommended it. I came here and have enjoyed it ever since.
