  • Howdy Folks! I have been a JW fan since I was just a little buckaroo! One of my great joys was becoming dear friends with legendary film composer, Elmer Bernstein. I first heard Elmer's music when I was a boy of 10 years old, and went to see the SONS OF KATIE ELDER at the old Academy Theater in Inglewood, California! That music was incredible and made me want to become a composer myself one day1 I owe it all to Elmer and the Duke!

  • WELCOME, Musicbuddy, to what has to be the friendliest site on the WWW. Sit down and rest a spell.
BTW - Elmer Bernstein is one of my favorite film composers. I was sorry to hear of his passing in 2005 (if memory serves me). I have several LPs from a couple of his movie scores - "To Kill a Mockingbird," "The Great Escape," etc.

    Cheers - Jay:beer:

  • Hello all -

I am an "almost 49" year old guy from Illinois who was brought up as boy watching the Duke - have been hooked ever since - I just picked up the Blue-Ray DVD of "The Cowboys" and I am just thrilled with the quality of the picture - it looks absolutely fantastic on my new 55" Vizio LCD TV. The added features also got me into looking at a lot of the historical aspects of the film, including the history behind the William Dale Jennings' novel (interesting story there), as well as the the various set locations - all of his westerns have such fantastic locations - it's my dream to go visit all of the sites at some point in my life - True Grit in CO, The Cowboys in NM and CO, Rooster Cogburn at the Rogue River in Oregon - most of those places are still very much unsettled and as wild as they were portrayed in his films.

Anyway, I could go on, but like most everyone here, the above rambling kind of tells you a little bit about me - looking forward to learning more as I sift through the endless message threads on this board!!!

  • Hello and welcome to the board, JWfan1. Glad to have you aboard. As you "sift" through those message threads, please feel free to jump in with your two cents worth.
