Re: Pals Of The Saddle- Ella Raines

As a special request for our member RedRiverDee

Ella was a fine and beautiful actress,
sadly only making 1 film with Duke.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (1944) .... Arleta 'Arly' Harolday

Pity there were not more, as there was
obvious chemistry between the pair.

Apparently when she met Duke, Bond and Fix,
Duke had expressed concern to Ward about using
swear words in front of her!
Ella came to realize that Duke was prolific at swearing!
Quote:
We had lunch, and I liked them all so much
Quote:
I adored Duke- big old lunk of a thing. never mind his four-letter words.
They just seemed to be like black pearls cast on hay-
you overlooked them
On the way back from lunch Ella overheard Duke say:-
Quote:
I'll be goddamned if she doesn't even walk like Arly
Ella didn't know at the time, that was to be her role.

Ella said at the time.
Quote:
I just grew to be enchanted with Duke.
We would go over to his dressing room after work and have a drink.
I would sit around will Ward Bond, Paul Fix and Duke,
and laugh about the events ofthe day.
We'd talk about the next day and re-write a few lines,
then I'd go home.

Re: Pals Of The Saddle- Ella Raines

Ella Raines was easily one of Duke's best female love interests. She was stunning in Tall in the Saddle, far more captivating than the gal from the east in the movie. I didn't realize that her body of work was so anemic till just now...

Re: Pals Of The Saddle- Ella Raines

A short career than spanned 13 years with one guest appearance almost 30 years late. A beautiful woman with deep blue eyes. Not much of a story there. There must be a story. Why would she as quoted retire from acting in 1956? Duke seem to like her while filming, why didn't they work together more? I'll have to see Tall in the Saddle again to see her preformance. I don't recall much of her preformance. I do agree that she is a beautiful lady. May have not enjoyed acting that much.

Cheers
