Serious reading also, LOL!
CHISUM for the third time this week. Must be a favorite of Paula's. Ben Johnson is so funny mumbling under his breath all the time....love him in it. And he shows a true love for John Chisum in a rough, manly type way. Sure glad he doesn't get killed off. Cried enough this week with a few watches of The Shootist! Keith

Watched Chisum and The Outlaw Josey Wales today both nice Western's. I enjoyed the strange take on the Pat Garrett Billy the Kid story and Duke acted well in this, the ending was particularly enjoyable as was Ben Johnson in his supporting role, big cast in that. I find McLaglen an underatted director as I really enjoy many of the movies he made with Duke and Jimmy Stewart, he did a great service with those movies and continued to work with two legends at a time when many directors had branded them too old etc, when they were anything but. My favourite part of TOJW was the coming together of different people's motif with the Indians, the traditional family and The Outlaw, all different people but all good with a common aim of a quiet decent life, and of course Clint plays the bitter man seeking revenge like no other. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!
A Lawless Street-Randolph Scott 50s western, with cool bar fight between Scott (and his double) and big Don McGowen. Too bad McGowan didn't have a better career. Looks like he died rather young, and ended up in bit parts in Gunsmoke and in films.
The Indian Fighter with Kirk Douglas and Walter Mathau. Good little western. Beautiful scenery and happy ending....amazing, LOL! Keith

Bits and pieces of Oklahoma with Gordon Macrae and Shirley Jones with as many of the wonderful songs I could find. Here is one that has about three or four of them and the movie scenes. Sure wish I had a great version of that whole score....used to, still do, but no record player to play the vinyl on, LOL!
Four fast guns and Rancho Notorious.
The latter an excellent, almost noir, western directed by the legendary Fritz Lang.
The other, a rather tame, almost tv standard western of little consequence.

Just finished the first disc of Branded episodes. Some guest stars included: Harry Carey Jr, Gene Evans, Michael Ansara, and a couple of others. Also includes a bonus of one episode from: The Rifleman--which had John Anderson as the guest.
