Another offbeat selection - "City by the Sea" - a Robert de Niro vehicle. Not exactly an upbeat film.

House Boat with Cary Grant and Sophia Loren. As a child I thought this was such a romantic film.It is not a masterpiece but nevertheless a lovely film.

Picnic with WIlliam Holden (The Horse Soldiers) and Kim Novak. Very unusual movie but very well done. It also had Rosland Russell, Cliff Robertson, and Bety Field. Just different for a 1955 movie.

The Fighting Sullivans with Thomas Mitchell (Stagecoach) and Anne Baxter, and looks like Ward Bond as the Navy recruiter.

Watched All The King's Men with Broderick Crawford. I know I should be shot!!! . I had never seen the movie so it was interesting to see
Broderick Crawford performance as Willie Stark compared to John Wayne in Sands of Iwo Jima.

It started well but lost momentum towards the end. Interesting to see John Ireland and Joanne Dru both in roles after they had done Red River the year before.

Is the rumour true that John Wayne was offered the Willie Stark role. I couldnt see him in 1000 years playing the role it was portrayed.

For the record John Wayne's performance is the better one.

    We wuz robbed.

I watched Pirates of the Caribean- Dead Man's Chest

There is allot going on in that movie and can be a bit confusing but if you stick with it, it is a good movie, not great though. I thought the first one was better.

I watched Bringing Up Baby. It had Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn (Rooster Cogburn . . . . and the Lady). This movie also had Barry Fitzgerald (The Quiet Man) and Ward Bond (in an uncredited role). I will not tell you what Bond did with Duke, there is so many to mention. A very busy movie but pretty good.

I got this with the promotional with DeepDiscountDVD.com, and got six movies and finally watched to last of the six classics from that order. The six were Bringing Up Baby, The Fighting Sullivans, Dead End, Picnic, Sergeant York, and Friendly Persuasion. I think I saved $45 on the six DVDs.

    Cheers B)
