Mini Biography
Farrow wrote short stories and plays during his four-year career in the navy. In the late 1920s he came to Hollywood as a technical advisor for marine filming and stayed as a screenwriter, from A Sailor's Sweetheart (1927) through Tarzan Escapes (1936). He married Tarzan's Jane, 'Maureen O'Sullivan', in 1936. He began directing in 1937 (Men in Exile (1937) and West of Shanghai (1937)). He was injured while serving as Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy in World War II. After that he converted to Catholicism and wrote a biography of Thomas More, a history of the Papacy, a Tahiti/English dictionary and several novels. He collaborated in the writing of several of his films and shared the Academy Award for Around the World in Eighty Days (1956).

Glenn Ford was originally scheduled to play the title role in Hondo.
However Ford had worked on Duke's production Plunder of the Sun
and found Farrow ' often callous', so opted out working with the director again.

Although Farrow was directing, Chuck Roberson noted:

Hey Keith, just a note on Farrow. Two of the movies he directed were essentially the same movie. In 1939, he directed Five Came Back. About a small passenger plane that crash lands in the jungle and the struggle of the passengers and crew to fix the plane and get back to civilization. I think one of the stars was Chester Morris, can't remember the rest. In 1956, he then directed Back From Eternity which was the same story as Five Came Back, just updated some. It starred, Robert Ryan, Rod Steiger, Gene Barry, Anita Ekberg, Phyllis Kirk and, Keith Andes. Just thought I'd bring that up.
