    Yes, we did!

Of course, the marker won't be available for "viewing" until the museum is built and the Walk of Fame put in between the birthplace house and the Learning Center/museum, which will be a few years.

However, I have learned that on the brick walkway leading directly to the birthplace home, there WILL be a brick highlighting this website, and that will be there MUCH sooner. The brick was purchased by an anonymous benefactor.

    Yee Haw!

I took a picture of the brick when I was in Winterset a couple of weeks ago.

    Pretty nice, huh??

See the brick pathway on the right? Our brick (the one with our site address) is near the right corner closest to the sidewalk (near the sign for tour tickets).

I stopped at the John Wayne Birthplace on my way to My son's football game in western Iowa. It is about 20 miles off the Interstate (80). Very easy to get to. Did not have a lot of time to browse but I did see our brick. The Bridges of Madison County are also in Winterset. Some day I will definately will go back.

The 2010 John Wayne Birthday Celebration

Just thought you'd all like to know what's going on for the 2010 John Wayne Birthday Celebration on May 28-29, 2010 in Winterset, Iowa. This year's Celebration is centered around the 50th anniversary of "The Alamo" and festivities will be held on the historic Courthouse Square in downtown Winterset (just spittin' distance from the Birthplace home).

The VIP Fund Raising Event on Saturday, May 29th will feature a sumptuous dinner in true Western style, followed by music from chart topper Moe Bandy and his Americana Band. A stunning big-screen presentation of "The Alamo" will follow. The first 500 who purchase VIP tickets will also receive a FREE DVD copy of "The Alamo" as a souvenir keepsake, courtesy of MGM/DVD.

John Wayne's daughter Aissa Wayne will also be at the VIP Event. Aissa appeared with her father in "The Commancheros", "Donovan’s Reef", "McLintock!" and--yes--"The Alamo."

Tickets for the VIP Event are $100 and may be purchased on our website at http://www.johnwaynebirthplace.org/birthday or by calling toll-free (877) 462-1044. Tickets are going fast, so don't delay! Makes a great Christmas gift, too! Proceeds benefit the new John Wayne Birthplace Museum and Learning Center.

Even if you're not attending the VIP Event, there's plenty to do. The Western Mercantile Marketplace on the Square will feature fabulous western-related merchandise and fantastic food. There'll be a free outdoor showing of "The Alamo." And of course, Duke's Birthplace home will be open for tours.

For up-to-date information on the 2010 John Wayne Birthday Celebration and everything that's going on, visit our web site at http://www.johnwaynebirthplace.org/birthday.

I had the pleasure of being off camera during Joe Zukes interview.
Joe did a great job. I only hope more board members can be at Winterset for the showing of the Alamo. All members that show can get together for a fine Iowa lunch and a toast to Duke.

Bill, I agree! Joe did a GREAT job! It was all the more fun watching and listening, having met him personally. It was a real nice special, and sure makes me want to be back there again!

I think it would be wonderful if JWMB members were able to get together in Winterset, to celebrate John Wayne's birthdsay, and enjoy each other's company.

Re: The 'New' John Wayne Birthplace and Learning Center

I have just got off the phone with the NEW president of John Wayne Birthplace, my good friend and board member Joe Zuke.
    Congratulations Joe!
I know things will move in a very positive way with a partnership of Joe and Brian Downes toward the building of the museum.

Just to let everyone know the Birthplace of John Wayne now has a page on Facebook! Visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Winter...6919821?ref=nf. Another place to keep up with the latest news at the Birthplace.

Also, there's a wonderful video on the Birthplace site now from the "Saddle Up with Dennis Brouse" show. It includes a visual tour of the Birthplace home with Birthplace board (former) Vice President Joe Zuckschwerdt, a horseback ride down the Clark Tower Trail in Winterset's City Park with Ginger Ryals, an Interview with long-time Duke costumer Luster Bayless, and highlights of the 2009 John Wayne Birthday Celebration.
