Some John Wayne DVDs for sale

    Hi All

I have several films of John Wayne on DVD for sale, they are on 3 disks. They are primarily B movies including 'Randy Rides Alone' and 'Riders of Destiny', however one of the movies is an 'A' movie called 'Angel and the Badman'.

Now why am I selling them, simply because I don't have a DVD player and I already have most of these movies on Vhs.

Anyone interested please PM me, the DVD's are all region one and no time wasters please.

    Robbie,

Have you considered buying a DVD player? I can't speak for the UK, but over here in the states, DVD players are very reasonably priced. Combo VHS/DVD players are common and also reasonably priced. In fact, that's how we ended up with our DVD player. Our VHS player bit the dust and had to be replaced, and for just a few dollars more, we could also play DVDs. The down side, of course, is "having to" buy all those DVDs . Now we have an extensive DVD collection, and much of what we own and enjoy on DVD is probably not even available on VHS (like old TV series, as an example).

The obvious positive things about DVDs are that you can fit way more of them in a cubic foot that VHS tapes, and you NEVER have to rewind them , and to my knowledge, the picture quality is less likely to fade over time like tapes will.

Another thought on the subject, though, is that as technology gets better, some other format may come along (some are already there), where you could have our whole movie collection in your pocket, thereby bypassing the expense of DVDs or a player.

    Hi Jim

I couldn't agree with you more. It took me a long time to consider DVD's but when we did get a couple I wondered why we took so long to make the change.
Originally DVD discs were and to some extent still are - very expensive in UK but the prices are going down all of the time and some are quite reasonable. I also bought a DVD recorder and was able record Hondo The High and The Mighty and Island In The Sky none of which are currently available over here.

The life expectancy of a DVD over the life of a VHS is also something to consider. VHS tapes are slowly becoming brittle with age. I found a couple the other day that I've had for many, many years and the tape itself was slightly delicate so much so I decided not to play it. I also found a box of Beta tapes (it came out before VHS) that I kept in a safe environment but found them to be very brittle. They say DVD's are suppose to last over 100 years so they'll definitely out live me. I remember buying my first Beta player in 1981 from Sears so that will tell you how old the tapes are. Since they soon died and gave way to VHS.

I know some places over here you can buy a cheap DVD player for less than $25 so for a $100 you could get a real good one that should last. I'd keep the DVD's and start a DVD collection. That's what I have and they take up a lot less space.

Have to admit I thought that myself when I read the post. Trust me when you go DVd you will not look back.

Worth getting multi region player so you can watch Region 1 discs as well.

Amazon do a couple of good models for around £20-£35 mark

Hi Mike, your EXACTLY correct on DvDs in once you have them you don't go back to the other.

I resisted buying any DvDs for years--just like CDs. My first DvD purchase, came about 3 or so years before I had a DvD player. I was dumb enough to get involved with one of those Columbia House clubs. The ad said, buy 4 DvDs (for whatever deal they had going on) and get the 5th free. Well, needless to say, I did that deal and had an instant collection of movies. Before they arrived, I had been thinking I had made a major mistake in getting them. Well, some 5 or so years later, I have around 300 DvDs in the collection.

I also like the idea of getting rid of a VHS tape when I buy the DvD replacement. Being they are smaller and lighter than the tapes, makes it that when I move--its not such a burdon as moving about 6 big boxes of VHS tapes.

Due to buying some recent replacement/upgrade sets I have a few DVD's I would be willing to give away just for the postage. They are in great shape and are some of his better movies. All these movies are FREE!!!

    Back to Bataan
    Without Reservations
    Angel and the Badman
    Rio Bravo
    True Grit
    The Cowboys

All are Region 1 except for Back to Bataan is Region 2. I could ship them anywhere in the US for less than $10 media mail. It weighs less than 2 lbs.
