I found this site by chance when searching for John Wayne information - DVD reviews etc.- on Google.
Well, I was just browsing the internet using GOOGLE, looking for info on new dvd releases for John Wayne and belong to the IMDB forum. I've loved movies all of my life (since I was old enough to be watching them on my family's old, rounded case, B&W Philco)...being 53, I have collected quite a few movies over the years. For at least the past 10 or so years I concentrated my collecting for mostly films from the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's. I was never a big fan of Westerns (which was all my Dad watched as I was growing up..."Gunsmoke", "The Rifleman", John Wayne, Roy Rogers, etc.) so I really didn't care for John Wayne that much. For years my favorites were Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, James Cagney, Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, as so forth. I thought these were great actors. Sometime in the mid 60's I happened to catch "Donovan's Reef" on a double feature at our local drive-in and it became one of my favorite films...but I still didn't care for Westerns so I didn't pay any attention to any other movies John Wayne was in. Recently (about the last two years) I realized how "unreal" our movies have become...all computer imaged and not very original. Violence and sex just for the sake of violence and sex. I watched "The Searchers" and "Stagecoach" for the first time a year or two ago and was blown away by the realness of Mr. Wayne...he made it look so easy! Then I started realizing how "unreal" a lot of the movie idols I'd admired in the past were. Early last year I had a paltrey handful of John Wayne movies on VHS. At this point I have over 90 titles on DVD and still collecting! I was ecstatic when all the new DVDs were released this week and have melted my plastic credit cards.

Hi Mhitt
Welcome to the Forum.
Yes Google seems to bring this forum up pretty easy now. That's how I found it.
Hope you like it and we see you about.
Mike
Michael,
We'd like to extend to you a warm welcome to the John Wayne Message Board, absolutely the best of its kind on the 'net! I feel confident when I say you will find this board a far sight better than the IMDb forum - a real friendly crowd here, who all love John Wayne.
We're glad you've joined us, and hope to see you around again!

Good to have you onboard mhitt. We are glad you have found us and found the Duke!!
Join in on the conversations and I am sure you will meet some great people here as well as learn about John Wayne and western's in general.
Hello and welcome aboard, mhitt. Glad you found us.
It's funny how some people get hooked on JW. I never sat through a Duke movie growing up. Never gave one a chance. One day some friends of mine were going to the Drive-in and asked me to go. I went, not knowing what was showing on the screen. It was The Shootist. I was hooked ever since. Glad to count you among the "hooked" people on this site. Sit and stay awhile.

Just wanted to start a little thread to find out if some of you found us from word of mouth at the recent celebrations. Or if you just found us by searching on the net. Welcome aboard!
DakotaSurfer I merged your new topic with an existing thread that we had going in the newbie forum. Your poll was moved over to this thread now too.
Dang, I can't vote..

I know I'm still a Newbie but I wanted to extend a warm welcome to other's who have joined. And for those who are just checking us out I'd like to invite them to come on in and be a part of this great place. It's where I come to escape a world gone mad. I think I read here where someone said they feel the Duke's here. I feel that too...His fans were very important to him and I don't think you'll find a more devoted group of them than we have here.

I think most find us through Google or Yahoo but the good work at Winterset by members may an influx via the badges

I'm hoping at least some of the new people joined from the buttons that Chester and I passed out. I'm also putting them in my memorabilia sales along with a card I made up.
I got here through the button and card from DakotaSurfer, when I purchased some of his items.
