Just wanted to say hello, I have kind of been "lurking" and decided to finally say hello. I have been a longtime JW fan, as my dad is as well, he was the one who got me started many years ago. I have recently purchased a big screen TV and just added the surrond sound, and I must say one of my biggest motivations to do this is so I could see the Duke on the "Big screen". I like the discussions and the politeness of everybody on here and look forward to sharing my thoughts with you all.

It seems that dads are the ones that lead us to John Wayne. Welcome to the group. I look forward to your input on different questions that come up.

    I totally agree with Chisum

My first John Wayne movie I can remember seeing was "The War Wagon" while I was sitting on my father's lap. When ever I watch "War Wagon" I think of the two men that have made me understand what to stand up for, what to respect, and hopefully how to walk with honor ;)

    SXViper,

Welcome to the board! Glad to see you decided to post. I, like Chisum, look forward to your input in the many areas this place has to offer.

Is your dad able to enjoy our little group with you? That would be great if he is.

I have a seven year old son who LOVES John Wayne, but two older sons who don't really care one way or the other. I must admit I didn't really get into the Duke big time until the past 5 years or so, I guess that might have something to do with it . . . .

I hope we'll see more of you in the days and weeks and months to come.

    :D

    Cheers,

    Chester

    Chester,
My dad is not too computer savvy, but I can relay any thoughts he might have when ever a discussion comes up about the Duke. I myself am 37 years old and have been a JW fan for as long as I can remember. I even remember the day he died, my parents told me I was very upset after hearing the news. I was 13 at the time.

And on another note, I have made a fan out of my wife since the big screen and all the movies I have purchased.

    SXViper,

Does your dad live nearby? Perhaps sitting in front of your computer together, reading the posts, might be a fun thing to do, and get him involved (you know, sort of a "male bonding experience" B) ).

Luckily, my wife is as much of a fan as I am, and I didn't have to get the big screen TV to make it happen. In fact, if you've read enough posts on this board, you've seen her presence on more than one occasion. We're quite the team!

Yes, welcome aboard newcomers...It is interesting to read how others became Duke fans...I was shown the way by my older brothers, but didn't really see many films until after my wife and I were married, we got borrowed and watched True Grit...and suddendly we realized after searching the internet and seeing all the films he was in that we had about 150 more to watch!

Some of you are lucky to have family that you can share John Wayne with. I am envious. My Father never showed an interest, nor any of my siblings. My wife and kids put up with it but never discourage it (not that they could). The good people on this board are my adopted family when it comes to sharing Duke. Many thanks! Welcome to the board, SXViper. You are going to enjoy your time here, I have no doubt! dukefan1

I think that I can say for the majority of the board that we would be very proud to be part of your adopted family. What is really interesting with a family like this is race color creed religion have nothing to do with it. We are all John Wayne Fans and that is all that really makes any difference.

    Dukefan1,

I will share with you seniments as I have with my family. They don't share in the enthusiasm in Duke as I do as well. They don't understand the way life was, and they don't embrace in the history. They want modern adventure.

My brother, who thinks movies are real today with the language, and behavior is the way life is, and the movies Duke and others portrait are not even real. But, he don't like westerns either. I think he didn't believe it existed. They don't live, act or behave that way ever. It's the same with the rest of my family, and I just ignore them.

When I watch Duke, I usually watch him by myself, but I like it that way, because I don't want to hear the moaning and groaning from family. I have adopted all of you as family when I want to discuss Duke, his life, and his movies. It doesn't bother me anymore. But I will not give up my all time favoirte actor. Not even for my family.

So, Dukefan1, we'll get through this with our family; alright?

    Take Care,
    Cheers, Hondo B)
