if there was just one other movie Duke should have won an Oscar for, what movie would it be?
For me, it would be The Shootist.
Note: You can only pick ONE movie.

The Shootist !!!

Has to be The Shootist
I've often thought the Academy should award posthumous (or even posterior) recognition for outstanding performances. I can think of several other performances I thought deserved an Oscar but didn't get one. Including my namesake, for instance. If ever someone should have won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in a role, it was Walter Brennan as Stumpy in "Rio Bravo". He played that role magnificently. I also think Robert Duvall should have won one as Best Supporting Actor in "True Grit".
And in my long-considered opinion, Paul Newman has been robbed of 6 or 7 Oscars he should have won as Best Actor.

john wayne in hondo
john wayne in red river.
john wayne in the searchers.
john wayne in the shootist.
john wayne in she wore a yellow ribbon.
the winner is john wayne in the shootist.
i know i took the long route to say the same as almost everyone else.

I think The SHootist should have been a winner for Duke but, I also think he gave an excellent performance in movies like: Big Jake, Rio Lobo, Rio Grande, The Alamo, Hondo, The Sea Chase and Back to Bataan--just to name a few. Oh and, I almost forgot, I think he should have got one for his work in: Stagecoach.
Es Ist Verboten Mit Gefangenen In Einzelhaft Zu Sprechen..
after much thought on this matter and it did hurt quite a loti think he should have gotten something for she wore a yellow ribbon
cheers smokey
Wow, I can't believe anyone picked The Searchers. However, I too am going to choose The Shootist as well. I normally hate watching any movie that Duke dies in but the Shootist was a good one.

i might add my 81 year old father also picks the SHOOTIST.
