  • Sugarfoot is an American Western series that aired on ABC from 1957 to 1961.
The series stars Will Hutchins as the fledgling frontier lawyer from Oklahoma Territory, Tom Brewster,
and Jack Elam in occasional episodes as sidekick Toothy Thompson.
    Brewster was a correspondence-school graduate
whose apparent lack of cowboy skills earned him the nickname "Sugarfoot".

    Another teenage memory.
Much lighter in tone then some of the other horse operas,
but enjoyable in its own way.
Sugarfoot was one of the earliest productions
between ABC and the new Warner Brothers Television Department,
chaired by William T. Orr. Other shows to come from this, included,
Maverick, Cheyenne, Bronco, Lawman, and Colt .45.
Will Hutchins appeared as Sugarfoot in crossover episodes of
    Cheyenne and Maverick,
and in an installment of Bronco called
"The Yankee Tornado" featuring Peter Breck as the young Theodore Roosevelt.

  • Thanks for posting this as this is one that I had never heard of before. You'd think that Encore Westerns Channel would show uh.... shows like this from time to time.

    Stay thirsty my friends.

  • SUGARFOOT, SUGARFOOT, easy lopin', cattle ropin' SUGARFOOT,
Carefree as the tumbleweeds, ajoggin' along with a heart full of song
And a rifle and a volume of the law.

SUGARFOOT, SUGARFOOT, never underestimate a SUGARFOOT,
Once you got his dander up, ain't no one who's quicker on the draw.

You'll find him on the side of law and order,
    From the Mexicali border, to the rolling hills of Arkansaw;

SUGARFOOT, SUGARFOOT, easy lopin', cattle ropin' SUGARFOOT,
Ridin' down to cattle town, a-joggin' a-long with a heart full of song
And a rifle and a volume of the law.

Will Hutchins wasn't a very good actor. He became a professional clown.

  • I remember the series, although I don't think it was as popular as some of the others. I didn't get to watch it much either, though I don't really remember the reason why. My memory says it was more in a lighter vein with more comedic aspects than most (save "Maverick").
