I remember him most as Chief Inspector Dreyfuss, the not-so-long-suffering boss of Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) in the "Pink Panther" movies from the '70s.
EDIT: I read the link provided in the previous post AFTER I posted this initially, and the opening paragraph is nearly word for word what I wrote!!!
Maybe I was "channeling" the writer of the obit...nah!

Johnny Lewis Dead: 'Sons Of Anarchy' Actor Found Dead Outside Los Feliz Woman's Home
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... cops believe Johnny was on drugs-- either PCP or meth -- at the time he allegedly killed a woman and then fell to his death.
Sources tell us ... after allegedly killing the 81-year-old woman, Johnny had fought with two men for 3 to 4 minutes ... hurting at least one of them
We're told Johnny initially used a 2x4 to attack the men ... and then used his bare hands.
Law enforcement sources say the men he fought with say Johnny showed "super-human strength" and was "phenomenally strong."
We're told Johnny tried to break into the house of one of the men ... and it took 3 people to hold him back.
One source tells TMZ ... Johnny had gone to a neighbor's home to introduce himself earlier in the day.
Neighbors tell us Johnny had lived in that house before, moved away, and then came back.
Neighbors who knew Johnny say he was a "nice guy."

Another great actor and favorite of my youth is gone. Herbert Lom made a scary Ben Yousef in El Cid and a smarmy Tigranis in Spartacus, so when he slid over to comedy as CHIEF Inspector Dreyfuss in "A Shot in the Dark" and the sequels, I was floored.
His portrayal of the Phantom in Hammer's "Phantom of the Opera" is the best one since Lon Chaney, Sr.
Vaya con Dios.
Lom was always good as a dramatic actor. Then when you saw him playing against type in the Pink Panther movies and being very good at it, it was quite surprising.
Hi
Herbert Lom a very good supporting actor in many good films RIP.
Regards
Arthur
Walk Tall - Talk Low
Great as Inspector Dreyfus in the "Pink Panther" movies. R.I.P. Herbert Lom.

"Not hardly!!!"
Alex Karras, American Football Player who later became a comedic actor died today. Apparently suffering from numerous maladies, kidney failure proved fatal. If you don't know him as an athlete you probably know him as Mongo from Blazing Saddles. Also starred in the hit TV show "Webster" with Emmanuel Lewis. RIP Alex

Rest in Peace Mongo.
Es Ist Verboten Mit Gefangenen In Einzelhaft Zu Sprechen..
A really good football player who played for the Detroit Lions in the 60's (mostly) and got a kick out of him playing Mongo on Blazing Saddles.
A true loss but from what I heard he was suffering so thankful that his pain is now gone.
R.I.P. Alex

- John Wayne quote"When you come slam bang up against trouble, it never looks half as bad if you face up to it"
Alex Karras, "What a great guy he is", says my old friend, Wayne Swinford, and once pro football buddy of Alex'.
I remember him best for his role of George Zaharious, the husband of probably the most fantastic woman athlete in the world. She won more events and dominated more sports than is even imaginable today although she died of cancer in her forties. Alex was excellent in his role of the ex- professional wrestler who won Babe's heart. The woman who played Babe Didrickson Zaharious was Susan Clark who became Alex' wife in real life and was at his bedside with family when he died at home.
He was also the color analyst on Monday Night Football with Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford.
Will call Wayne now and tell him how sorry I am. Alex Karras, once called, "The Gentle Giant"! Keith
RIP Alex
Best Wishes
Keith
