Results of the 2009 John Wayne Top 25

The results are in and there is a new number one. For the first time we have a new number one. It is Rio Bravo! This movie only received one and a half first place votes, but it received enough points to get the grand title at 272.5. In second place which is no stranger to number 2 is The Quiet Man with 261 points. This movie won the first place votes with 6 but it was not enough to get the number one nod. In third is The Shootist with 252 points and 2 first place votes followed by The Searchers with 240 points and 3 first place votes. Topping out the top 5 is True Grit with 230 points and 1 first place vote. The second 5 is Sands of Iwo Jima (182), Stagecoach (182), Red River (181), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (178) and El Dorado (175.5) with the other half first place vote.

The second ten are The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (170), McLintock! (165), The Alamo (164), Hondo (139), Rio Grande (133), The Sons of Katie Elder (119) the last first place vote, a three way tie with 113 points Big Jake, Chisum and The Horse Soldiers and rounding out at number 20 Rooster Cogburn (97).

Rounding the final 5 are Fort Apache (92), North to Alaska (89), The Comancheros (84), In Harms Way (77) and
Angel and the Badman (66)

22 Westerns, 2 War movies and 1 Drama made the top 25.

I would have participated but I dont think I could have made a definate list. I have never seen a John Wayne movie I didnt like, and depending on the mood i like the one i didnt like as well the day before better the next time.
