    Remembering the Duke

On this, the anniversary of the Duke's passing, I thought it would be good to recall how he has made a positive impact on each us. For myself, I'm thankful for the positive roll model he's been.

When watching one of his movies I always feel content, safe, secure and happy. If that makes sense.... when thinking of Duke I think of my father and the things that they both stood for and stand for.

Duke represents the strong Father figure I never really had in my life, some one who taught what it meant to be a man among other things. His movies always bring a sense of peace when i watch them.

    Unhappy Re: Remembering the Duke

In a way, he isn't gone. He never will be. Yet I've felt so sad today, remembering his passing. It's been on my mind all day. I think of the day, 30 years ago, when I was working on a newspaper copy desk and the bulletins started coming in. The copy desk chief tore the entire paper up and remade it on deadline. I didn't know who the Duke was then. He did.

    Re: Remembering the Duke

We only really became big John Wayne fans in the past ten years. We have come to know him as a legend that represents many good things about our country - strength, bravery, steadfast dedication to protecting our freedoms - as Maureen O'Hara said, "John Wayne IS America!"

nordy, thank you for sharing that story! What a memory for you!

BTW, we'd also like to officially welcome you to the Original John Wayne Message Board! Congratulations on 'breaking the ice' and making your first post!

We hope to see you around soon!

Duke reminds me of someone who is truly honest with themselves. To thine ownself be true. Amen. I guess as I grew up I always said what I thought, its a blessing and a curse sometimes but I never have to remember. I had a phsycologist lady as a neighbor she used to tell me you are a joy to talk to and your honesty with people and yourself is a rarity nowadays. I guess I can thank the duke for that Trait.
Mister you better find yourself another line of work, cause this one sure DON"T fit your PISTOL!
