Firstly i'd like to say how enjoyable this forum is, since iv'e joined everyone has made me feel welcome despite our disparity in ages, country etc, etc your all lovely warm people. I was just thinking that it might be nice if we picked 1 duke film a week, watched it and discussed it in detail. I'm aware alot of you have seen most if not all of Duke's movies, but you discover as much the second time :) just an idea, and i'd be interested to hear what people think of it.

We initiated the Movie Reviews a few years back,
where we chose one movie a week.
Alas, one or two members joined in
but after a few weeks, the project attracted
little or no interest.

It might be worth another try, to be honest I don't remember the original series at all.

Hasn't the forum grown considerably since then?
When you view the 'last western' and 'last non western' threads a lot of people are watching the same films as each other anyway.
Anyhow, that's my 2 penny's worth.
I'd be happy to participate but understand it may be harder than we actually think.

This will give me an excuse with my wife. I can claim that I'm participating in a formal review with a group.

Once every two weeks etc could work, whatever suited everyone really. There's plenty of Duke movies that can be watched online for free now on youtube and a site someone posted the other day that hosts old Westerns and that could save people having to actually go out and part money to buy the dvds, although I assume many of you have a sizeable Duke collection. Thanks for the replies.

Maybe you could start by asking everyone on here which films 5-10 duke films they own and pick from those to start with? Then at least there's no cost involved to hold people back.

One suggestion, to remind folks of what's happening, would be to (post in) the thread every few days, with the movie we're all watching.

I think moving this thread, aptly titled "Group Watch", to General Discussions, would be appropriate. Since the discussion (or really announcement and reminders) would be obviously John Wayne-related, the placement is right.

Each time you are letting folks know which movie is the subject, post in this thread, along with periodic reminders. This is similar to how Keith did it, if I remember correctly. Hopefully, the response will be a little better this time. However, I would say to not be too discouraged if it doesn't - folks have good intentions, and then life gets in the way. But I do think it's worth a try again.

Then, all discussion related to the movie itself can take place in the dedicated thread for that movie, which will then keep information and opinions regarding that movie all in one place.

If y'all like that idea, I'll move the thread.

I think it would be a good idea, if both of you, would take up the mantle. Perhaps, taking turns to chose a movie.
However, perhaps you can decide with one another.

One pointer, is don't forget, discussion on Duke's movies, has been, as you can see, already pretty detailed and expansive, with Movie Reviews of the Week, tried an a couple of occasions. So it maybe a good idea, to include other movies.

It is up to you, even though there maybe an existing thread for interest, a new thread can be started for each movie. For continuity the new thread can be easily merged into the existing thread(should one exist)
once the movie review has been played out.

Keith makes some excellent suggestions here, which I wholeheartedly support.

Let me add that you may have a very few to start, but it is important that big things start with a spark. And you will have those read what you post before they get really interested. Don't be discourage if you don't get many people on board at first, it will catch on if you keep it going.

We moderators will support you here and try to be involved with these reviews.

I'd definitely be up for taking turns with Dooley as it might get a bit boring if I just pick movies to my own taste every week and could easily miss out on some gem due to lack of knowledge etc. Might be an idea to go with Duke movies to start with as that after all is why we're here and is something we have in common and then if we get some decent interest we could start branching out to some other classic movies?

However when posting Duke's Movies, it might pay you to check back on the dedicated thread, for any information you might require.

We've decided the first movie we'll pick, will post the first thread after the 1st of July and everyone will have two weeks to watch the movie we choose. Is that agreeable for everyone?

I have moved this thread to the General Discussions forum (as per some earlier discussion), and was thinking you could post here, weekly, the movie we are all watching together. As tomorrow is July 1st, I thought it would be good to bring this thread back to the top.

I, for one, am happy with that choice, and we'll make a point of pulling it out soon and watching it.

From my own experience it is a thankless task,
and a difficult one for support.

I'm just very disappointed with the movie chosen, I would have felt a movie depicting John Wayne in a traditional pink western shirt more appropriate as this is what he is best remembered for.

Secondly why was a Ford or Hawk's movie not picked? It's clear that the people running this have their own agenda and want to ruin John Wayne's image by ignoring some of his best work.

A very poor start and I'm shocked that so called John Wayne fans are supporting this silly scheme.

Thirdly I would be flaggergasted to think anyone thought I was being serious. I was just having a little bit of fun following on from some of the problems this scheme had 6 years ago that were discussed recently - I know I'm awful.

"The Sons of Katie Elder" is a favourite of mine and I can't wait to get watching it - great choice and I'm sure this time this project will be a success.
